Electrical Build (Dual Batt, Solar, Inverter, Charger, Panels, Fridge) LR Discovery 2

Some progress on the rear panel. First time working on metal. far from perfect... but it should do the job and I can hide most crimes with edge trim.

Started out using a jigsaw, but even with using a straight edge clamped to the work, the blade would walk all over the place. I chalk it up to a crappy jigsaw (cordless black and decker). Then I switched to left, right, and straight aviation snips. Sometimes hand tools are the best. For the cutout I used a hand nibbler.

Next step is to add rivets to secure the panel at the top with knobs
And I will add aluminum angle to the top, bottom, and side for some strength, as after I cut out the hole it was very flimsy.

Unrelated to the electrical project (well until I add a light somewhere!), I finished the rear table this weekend.

Inspired by the Marc olivares design found here on the forums.

Question, Why not put in a P38 150 amp alternator if your going to all this trouble? It bolts direct and output is 30 amps more than stock D2 Alternator.

I'm aware of the 150amp alternator, and I'll probably upgrade to it when mine wears out. with solar, I don't see the reason to toss a perfectly good alternator for a 20 amp bump at this point

No, Mantec makes one for the Discovery 2. Ordered from FlatDogUK. Because I gutted the factory trim, I had to shim it with aluminum square tube. I highly recommend it, its perfect for storing my hammock, tarp, blankets, and other lightweight things.

Here's the solar panel ports. (top left). I wanted them separate from the main panel so someone wouldn't accidentally plug a fridge in. The wires ran nicely behind the frame and to the bottom. Had to do some drilling and cutouts.

Next up, drilling the roof for the MC4 cables.

edit: sorry I don't know why the forum keeps rotating my photos..
