Ener-G-Force concept

Mercedes is the first to acknowledge that the G500 Gelandewagen can't continue unchanged forever. They tried to move the buying public away from the 33 year old vehicle with the GL and GLK. Neither proved attractive to the true off-road enthusiast.

So Mercedes commissioned a concept vehicle that shows what a Gelandewagen might look like in 2025 (barely 12 years from now.) The Ener-G-Force is the result. This concept vehicle will be shown at the LA Auto Show in two weeks.

Those 20 inch rims are not for show. They make room for an electric motor at each wheel. The electricity is generated by a hydrogen fuel cell. It's a concept vehicle, remember?

it may need 20's, but any rims that are out beyond the rubber are for show.

it sucks, but they all will. the box is dead, and some of us want a box.

I really think the box will win out, this might just become some form of other benz ute but the old skool G will live on.

i'lll be wrong, but...

the only reason the G didnt die 15 years ago, was the military sales. thats it. the civilian market is icing.

so, do you think merc is gonna bank on a whole new G designed without military sales? no friggin way. why do i say without military sales? because look at it. kermit da frog is right, its an H3, and it has NO interior space, and NO visibility, so it will suck as a scout car, suck as panel truck, and its too small to be an effective armored car in todays IED world.

if they make that, it'll be as much of a G as an FJCruiser is a land cruiser. it'll only made for image, and merc will try to charge 120,000 for something they could produce for 60,000, by by marketing the big "G" history.

think about it. merc has all the tooling and facility costs for the G written off with all the military contracts. that 120,000 truck is material and labor, with a once a decade interior systems makeover (shelf parts pulled from the latest generation c class). this is nothing more than 5 middle age germans sitting around a table in designer spectacles, trying to figure out a way to keep 50,000,000 in raw profit flowing, once the mill spec orders dry up.
