EXCELLENT!!!:clapsmile

Way to go XLT, thanks for resurrecting. As I said before, let me know what I can do to help with your planning. I can provide topo coordinates for part of the Canaan Valley Loop road. In addition, visiting Blackwater Falls State Park is a must! The waterfall is simply beautiful.

Carl:According to my Directroute: From Blacksburg (airport road at VTECH) its about 4hrs 20 minutes to Canaan Valley and about a half an hour more to Blackwater Falls.

Do I have the right area?

Also; and please correct me if I'm wrong (don't everyone jump all at once!) but the 14th,15th and 16th are Saturday, Sunday and Monday? In which case there is a possibility for me to be there. I work till 1:00 on Saturday and would have to wait till then to leave, but as it appears to be a 4 or so hour trip that would put me there by suppertime:luxhello: on Saturday. And I'm off on Sundays and Mondays so I may be good to go!(crossing my fingers!)

well if were doing WV I'm out. Thats like a 15 hour drive for me and 2-3 days is not long enough to drive that far. I'm probably just going to shoot up to Beasley knob, tellico and uhwarrie Try and do a big loop and hit all 3 maybe.

Is Oct 14/15 set? I could probably get Friday and Monday off but we'd need to agree where to meet up.

For those who can make this are y'all making this a 4 day trip as well? Let's pin this down so we can make plans, and repairs.

IIRC NF Headquarters is in Elkins...about 25 miles south of where we'll be going. That may be a good meeting location.

I'll call the Ranger District office there tomorrow and ask him about the area camps and report back. That may also be a good place to leave info for those coming in later...maybe we could even post our location and directions there.

Just curious, would this be camping in campgrounds as a base camp and exploring during the day or backcountry and packing up camp each morning before heading out? Don't know how expansive the dolly sods trails are.

Put me down for Fri-Sun morning as a definite maybe :p

For such a short trip I'd think we'd be better off setting up a base camp in the backcountry and runnin' day trips from there. I'd rather spend time exploring or relaxing than setting up/breaking down camp.

What is our official date range?

10/13-15?
10/14-16?
10/13-16?

I should be able to roll with you guys - just need to 1) consult my wife, and 2) let work know that I'm going to be away on those days.

You takin' the turnpike I imagine? That's cool - that means I can probably intercept you as you drive through the area.
