Ever heard of Alu-Star/

Alu-Star site.

I hadn't run across this mfr before.

I didn't even attempt to translate (I couldn't seem to learn German when I lived there), but one of thier 'innovations' is putting the WC just inside the cabin door.

Wasn't there a member here, building a camper on a 'mog or Fuso, that planned to put the WC in the doorway? Kind of serving as a mud room?

I like the window shutters. Not sure I'm make much use of the opening roof, though. I don't know.

Just proves that there are no ideas. I've been kicking this idea around for a few weeks, but I had not seen any discussion of it. I was thinking about the 2 story camper those Japanese chaps made. One thing that confused me was that there was no way to the WC without going out side and back in through another door.

This got me to thinking that doors are wasted wall space. I've been thinking about having the entry door enter into the shower and then an interior door from shower to the rest of the interior. It would make a great entry way and let you take off wet jackets before stepping all the way in. It would require that the shower pan be low enough to have a grating in place. Shower pan should be metal not plastic. Add a small vestibule to hold the toilet, somewhere between a dry bath and a wet bath setup.

Yes, it would be inconvenient not to be able to egress/enter while the WC or shower was in use, but that isn't a deal breaker.

Oh, and google translate does a decent job on these pages.

John Speed--anyone building a custom camper should know of John Speed and his constructors' "bible" Travel Vans (http://www.travelvans.co.uk/)--virtually insists that the "bathroom" be put in the entryway. John can't stand the idea that valuable dedicated floor space would be given over to a room that is occupied only a few minutes a day.

I believed him, and built my Sprinter camper with the shower in the entry way and the toilet pulling out into the area. It's been great, and was the key to getting everything needed into the mid-wheelbase Sprinter.

I have heard of Alu-Star of course. They have build some nice campers. AFAIK they also build the cabin of http://www.kapschefsky.lkw-allrad.de/ .

Regarding putting the shower and WC into the entryway, I think it depends on how much space you have available. If you have not much space you have to make compromises. But for larger vehicles, like ours I would never put both into the entry-way, at least not the WC. Only if there is a second convenient way to enter and leave the cabin then it may be an option. Otherwise if the space may be blocked to long.

Somewhere in Rob Gray's first build I recall a picture of a perforated metal deck section in the entry that doubles as the shower floor. I seem to recall that his WC is also right there, but tucked away on sliders behind a door until needed.
I've not followed the Wot 2.0 build, so I've no idea if he stayed that course or not.

You know, I don't know that we've ever been treated to a virtual tour of your Sprinter.

I don't recall his WC being in an entry-way. Wasn't that rear-mounted drop-down stairway the only entry? That went up into their lounge area.

My bad, it's Wha-zat II that is built like this. The side entry has a perforated steel section at the door and the WC slides out nearby. Wasn't clear on it's exact location from my skimming the page.

I had forgotten about that.

The shower is also the entrance, laundry and toilet.

I guess that's what you call a multi-purpose room. :)

Oh, dear . . . that is a pretty major shortcoming. The damn thing is 3.5 years old now; you'd think I'd have found time to do that by now.

I'll make this something to get done. It's a pretty cool vehicle for it's size and I'm eager to show how everything got squeezed in.

Thanks for being interested.

DUDE! I can dream all I want about custom campers on Fusos, but in the real world I am far more likely to get a Sprinter. I've been eying them since they came to the US. I am dying to see how yours turned out.

I would also enjoy seeing it. I am building a much smaller van.
