Legally transporting firearms to Alaska while on a vehicle dependent trip

Clay and/or the Trip X members,

From what I know about Alaska back country travel, which is only what I've read, most Alaskan residents consider it irresponsible to travel into the Alaskan bush unarmed. (humans are NOT at the top of the food chain there) With that in mind, I'm sure you went to Alaska fully prepared. What are the logistics of legally transporting firearms to Alaska while on a vehicle dependent trip? (i.e. through Canada)

To others: Please no debates/comments regarding carrying firearms while traveling. I respect everyone's decision to travel with a firearm or not. Please extend that same courtesy to those that choose to travel armed, and have to deal with the logistics of that decision. Thanks

Having transported firearms through Canada on many occasions, the regulations are as follows:

Small side arms are not allowed, and rifles, "assault" rifles and shotguns are permitted, as long as they are registered. Registration is a one-time fee for up to 5 guns (IIRC) of CA$25 and is good for 60 days. No trigger locks or any of the such are not required.

That's pretty easy. I had heard they only allowed shotguns. Good to hear that rifles are allowed as well. Thanks.
