Expedition overland article on not getting "Jeeping"

This:)

I always love to see how wound up the Jeep and LR peoples get over something as mundane as this article...criticize or poke fun and oh boy...let it rain...

I would like to see the numbers (can the portal IT staff run these?) as to how many threads like these (as a percentage of total)are started in the Jeep and LR sections compared to other brands...
That's an interesting question. You and I travel the same circles to some degree. From what I can tell, bikepackers glom together in a unified love of their hobby. I have a Jeep, but it's the wrong Jeep so those people don't own me. When I had a Land Rover, the people likely to chide me to no end were other Rover owners. I own a VW Van, but the VW bus fans wouldn't fraternize with me. When I owned a Ducati, I couldn't stand the average Duc rider. My BMW is probably like the Jeep in that it isn't the latest and greatest, so I'm outside that tribe.

I need a spreadsheet to figure out how I fit in with my fellow ice climbers, skiers, sea kayakers, backpackers, runners......

The article basically comes off as clickbait intended to inflame one part of the community in order to generate discourse and traffic. It was honestly a pretty sorry excuse for an expo article in my opinion, op-ed or not. It didn't read as satire, or humor. It read as a long winded "I don't like what you like, so what you like is dumb".

Also Scott, you've got to admit there's some serious irony in you extolling the virtues of avoiding assumptions and petty generalities, when you proceed to compare any irate internet user who doesn't agree with the article to a web wheeler who lives in their mom's basement.

The article was written at least in part to be inflammatory. For better or worse, it succeeded.

Don't light a fire and then damn the wood for burning.

:sombrero: "Inflammmatory" is the impression I get from most articles written on this forum, when-

Any vehicle is singled out with anything other than 'WORLDS BEST" attached toit and

If thats the case, then most thread comments are of an inflammatory nature, it's

A product of the general forum population--me included !

I find this to be the case with most of the articles written by the staff. Most of the threads started by staff members also seem to be of this nature. For instance the one about the Brute being the ultimate, best ever, can't be beaten at anything vehicle.

I didn't see the answer in the thread. There was enough time to take INSTAGRAM pics of the trash, but was it picked up?

Yes.

Personally, I find the assumption that anyone on this site (not just staff) would stop to take a photo of trash and not pick it up quite amusing. I'm pretty sure everyone on here is better than that... :)

It is one thing to disagree with young Cordes, but another thing entirely to call him names and make ignorant assumptions about his experience .
well,
his writing by most reactions, didn't represent an experienced "jeeper"..
not by confusing between "Rock-crawling" and a slightly corroded trail, and not by assuming the trash belong to a certain type of people.

Toyotas have no soul, so they don't usually get all emotional about insults to their brand:
I always thought that the "soul" thing referred to Land rovers is the owners self explanation for the poor QC..:sombrero:
("how come all land rovers roll off the assembly line on Mondays.." "Lucas, the prince of darkness" etc..)

This thread needs a big ol' hug. And bacon. Definitely bacon.

Seriously though, Chris should have invested in ARB's new potato chip bag tie down system. I mean how many chips are wasted each year due to being too small to eat? There would be less crumbs and less wasted potatoes in the world if people just tied down their snacks better.
