That's why it's better off getting just a standard aftermarket valve that's easy to rebuild, though even the old ones like on my Lightweight are pretty simple.You could go with the standard switchover tap, but these are prone to the occasional leaking due to their age.
Yeah, I've thought about it a few times since I first read about them in '75 in a Petersen's book, but just never felt it was a compelling enough conversion. Changing the element just isn't that bad.The standard oil filter is yes...a bit of a pain to change, however the capacity of the original is a lot larger than a canister type. I often thought of switching to a spin on as well, but stuck with the original.
I agree, Rain-X is your friend, although I find it lasts more like 3 weeks, not hours. After spending a week driving through English mist, I really couldn't figure out why the British couldn't come up with better wipers for so long.
