i really like this bumper, this is really similar to what i had in mind to build for my ford expo. simple/ slim. and looks fairly light. but looks like it has strength where it's needed.

Sross how are the trip plans coming along? Have you had a chance to take some rear view bumper mount pic's yet?

The trip is on hold at the moment. A family obligation and as of yet unpaid back pay put a stop to it. I'm in Estonia at the moment but will take some pics when I get back in a couple weeks.

engine and transmission to be rebuilt

last night I picked up a new transmission and engine that will be rebuilt over the winter. This is the beginning of the tare-down.

Going to get farther along tomorrow

I've gotten a little farther with the disassembly of the 1.3 and am starting to consider how to go about the rebuild. I'm glad I am pulling this engine apart, two of the screws in the head were either out or almost all the way out. The valve springs need to be replaced as well. I haven't gotten the head off yet, I was too busy to do it today but when I do I am praying I can get away with a ring job. There wasn't anything but oil in the oil pan which is a good sign and the spark plugs were pretty clean with only a small bit of fouling. I also ordered a rebuild kit for the transmission so I'll be able to get to it fairly soon.

Finished taking apart my new engine, which is now all prepped to go to the machine shop next month.

I'm really glad I decided to rebuild this engine. As you can see from the pics, there is a ton of carbon on the pistons and in the intake chambers. The cylinders look good as do the rings so hopefully I can get away with minimum machine work.

This will be the perfect exploration rig for you. You know every bolt on the thing, every sensor, hose, linkage, etc. That gives a lot of peace of mind.

that's the plan, when I'm done doing the engine and transmission the only mechanical bits that will not have been rebuilt is the third members. All done by me.

This truck is now for sale. Right now I just don't have the time or motivation to do this properly, and as a full time student I'm chronically short of the cash necessary for the type of trip this truck was being built for. Sometimes you just have to know when to step away from a project. Priorities change, cliche, cliche etc...
