I'll have them shorten the front drive shaft and possible lengthen the "slip spline".

OK cool, I thought there was so much droop it was binding the U-joints. That would have been more difficult.
I had Inland Empire build a rear drive shaft with a 10" slip and a double 1310 Carden. It was spendy, but really gives a lot of leeway.
If I remember right it was about $350 delivered. I use a good grease with 15% moly to keep the splines slippery under load.
If there is a local welding school, might see if they want a "project" to weld up that old case for a spare.
And in any case, the more I look at all the work you've done, the more impressive your rig is. Great work! :beer:

On the "Road again"
Removed the transfer case and KLune V together and replace the cracked half of the T-case.
Took three guys to lift the two units together in place. Had some struggles with the linkage but all fit in well.
Did some exploring with the "healed" vehicle on some rather difficult trails in the Superstition Mountains area. With driving other 4WD vehicles often on trips, is easy to forget just how well this old XJ handles in the rough. It was three days of real fun.
I had one friend come along in his likewise older ZJ. Took some great movies which I combined together and stuck on Youtube.
