F/S, small mil surplus transit and storage cases

I bought 2 of these, they are very cool little boxes. Not sure what I will use them for yet, probably some cooking things, maybe tools. Perfect for carrying things the size of a Jetboil and fuel/pans etc. Not a pelican type, but if you have stuff that you don't need a pelican type case, these would work out.

Thanks for the post. In what way are they different from a Pelican case? We need to carry medical supplies overseas, as well as spare parts for our vehicle.
thanks, John

Sorry to be so picky about details, but to carry what we want we need to make sure they fit. So...

No problem. Don't want you to get something that doesn't work for you.

When the two halves are separated, are they about the same depth each, or is the lid/top shallower than the bottom?

The same depth.

What is the distribution of the 6 latches? Two each on the long sides and one each on the shorter sides?

Exactly. Two on each of the long sides and one centered on each of the short sides.

If you want more info, or a link to high-res pix, just let me know.

Just not quite as heavy, and the lid is not hinged. They are also not going lock like some other cases. If it were something that I was very concerned about moisture or security, I may not use these. But for some medical supplies and spare parts these would work well.

Are these water tight?...I'm looking to mount one on the outside of a trailer for emergency supplies/tools/flares.

As the pictures show, there is a little deflection along the long edges, but it looks like they still seal well. Also, there tends to be a little gap in the rubber seal along one edge (see picture). Since the top half overlaps the bottom half by about 1/2", rain should never be a problem. However, 60 mph wind-driven rain may get in, so if you are planning on using these on a roof rack in a monsoon, you might want to put a little silicon there...

I did run one under the shower for a while. Right-side-up it did fine, but when I ran it up-side-down (worst case, and not realistic), the water pooled in the seal area and a little did enter through the gap in the rubber seal that I mentioned.

Another thing I would be tempted to try, would be to remove the rubber channel that runs around the bottom half. That would leave a sharp plastic edge on the bottom half that would mate to the foam seal on the top half. That might actually seal better then the flat foam against flat rubber that they were designed with. Does that make sense?

I may try it and post up some pix.

Also, I was caught off guard on the shipping costs. I checked online, based on the weight, but when I actually shipped one out they based the shipping price on the dimensions, and it cost about $15.
