I believe I have brought this up before, but is your individual tire capacity rating much higher than needed on the front? Do you know your axle weights? On a cab over usually the front suspension is going to be within a reasonable range (meaning there's enough weight to move it and it's not bottoming).

I HATE bilstiens, they sold me 4 to put on our canter to do Cape York, told me about lifetime warranty blah blah, best shocks in the world blah blah and ALL failed within 1/2 a season. They wanted me to send them from Cairns to Sydney for "repair" which wasn't under warranty (thier discretion) mid season...IDIOTS!!!!
I then got some Pedders shocks to relace them, which I didn't have much faith in them admittedly, and to my surprise they were like new after 1/2 a season on Cape York (worst 1/2 of the season too, corrugations always bigger later in the season) They then lasted the next season as well, but alas after 2 1/2 seasons I changed them out and replaced with Pedders.
I will never ever recommend Bilstiens, they don't last and their staff are full of ********.
Just a thought,

p.s. send John a PM, he has great suspension packages

DZZZ, the tires are much more than needed capacity wize, front axle weight is 5500 lb and tire max is 5200 each, I am running with 40 lb air, I know the tires should give more but was really hoping the suspension would do more

ohh, another picture posted, I just may have it down.
This was at Kakabeka falls in Yoho NP.
Any other recommendations for a shock for the fuso, I am in Canada so will likely try to find local suppliers. I know many have used Deaver spring but would like to see if anyone in the Vancouver lower mainland area can do an upgrade for me.

I know these are in the wrong thread but I am just too excited about finally getting some pics posted, last one. Getting ready to leave on my first outing with the rig to go fishing with my yacht in tow.

Wow, some trucks and some pics.

First, I don't have an FG so I'm only speaking generally.
2X capacity on commercial road tires on a heavy duty pickup would produce a harsh ride. Your sitting on top of the tires in a cabover that doesn't have room for a great suspension design or much movement.

I'm sure people here can tell you the best FG rough road tires and maybe you can compare those products to what you have.

I've paid more for lower rated tires of the same product to avoid stiff sidewalls. And that was on a pickup that rides much better than an FG.

I'm beginning to come resigned to the fact that we won't see a substantial increase in ride comfort without a huge $$ investment.

lost, but making time
Congrats on posting the photos :)

Please ! Start a thread on this camper ! Very neat !

Thats weird! on the average 4wd toyota's nissan patrols etc, bilsteins are one of the best shockers around, pedders would have to be one of the worst along with ironman the valving is all wrong, far to hard, and they spew there guts after 6 months.

There is the truth, but for light trucks, you cannot go past foam cell track ryders, I'll get the part numbers I use from Pedders when I get back to the W/shop (sick with Flu).
Pedders Last longer than any other I've used, and are more suited to heavy loadings as you suggest. I may even suggest they got the valving spot on.
If you are a private person, Bilstien maybe great, but as a commercial operator, Pedders treat me like a Human being, not a stray dog.
Bilstien staff lie & decieve. They are the least helpful of ANY supplier I've ever dealt with in all my career, and that goes back to 1992 when I started working with Fraser Excursions....
I've still got the blown up shockies in my w/shop somewhere, I'll try and find them and get some pics....

Engineer I hope you get better soon, nothing worse than being crook when there are thing to be done.
I don't know if your aware but pedders commercial shocks are gabriels with there name on them, normally no one will use them on a 4wd as they are to hard in the valving and give a disgusting ride, but in your case obviously there is something different happening.
I would be interested to see the bilstein shocks.

Hi Alan,Yeah, they are the typical mass produced stuff with a bit of beef about them. They do fade after some Cape Corrugations at, what we call, Marketings impossible Itinerary speed, at about 15 minutes. There is very little that can handle the heat, but the foam cell seems to do OK.
I was under the impression that they were out of Mexico, I'll have to have a look.....
