I was going to start this thread to pool some knowledge as to the operation these vehicles in different terrains.

My tip

When driving in soft sand with dual's and bogging down reverse along your tracks, but not into the dual track and gi again.

The same goes for trucks running singles too but back up as far as you need to in order to move forward again and gain enough momentum to move further forward. Commercial beach FUSO's on singles will sometimes backup over their tracks 3 or 4 times to compact their tracks in order to get through a soft cutting that's been chewed up by bulk traffic.

in sand, I always found that 1st gear high range is better than trying to shuffle a syncro in low range.... always ended up snatching the others through. And only use 1 set of wheel tracks, not both
With duals, i could normally back out, but never tried it with a canter, only Hino, Isuzu, Mercedes and MAN, The RFW's all had singles, as did the inter, Kenworth and peterbuilt

Personally, I think that a hand throttle is the best thing since sliced bread.
It allows me to maintain constant engine RPM when going over bumpy terrain; something that is quite challenging to do with your foot on the accelerator peddle while being jostled around in the cab.
With less focus being dedicated to maintaining a constant speed, more attention can be placed on picking the best path. Well... it works for me. :)

i would do the heel & toe, use the brake as my locking diff. Guys were always amazed how i could get through stuff with a 2 ton trailer.
