Where was the bolt? On the hitch coupler or the triangle top plate?

I agree, none of those look like Grade 8 bolts... I also agree the design looks odd to me, but I see many of the SA and European trailers have the same coupler on top design. I would love an AT coupler or the 360 lock and roll one, but the CFO cut me off after buying the trailer ; )

Agreed I am going with the lock-n-roll no questions asked. I just have to pay off the trailer before by wife will let me add more to it.

I wouldn't take the chance on any of that junk. If you have any 4.8, replace it with 8.8. 12.9 would be stronger, but probably not necessary.

But... is it just me, or does it seem like there's a lot of problems with these trailers? Electrical problems, obscure bearings, bad hardware, water leaks... Jeez, you'd think Land Rover made them!!!:wings:

I agree it seems like a lot, but I think it is because we are working out these issues on the forum. For example, when I got my Tacoma it had a dash rattle, I Googled it, fixed it and never posted on it... with so few of these trailers, we are posting on every small detail. That said, sub-grade bolts ARE NOT a small problem. Not the trailer's (Mega) fault but the builder's (Dean?) staff used them I would guess. The electrical problem seems to be a minor plug issue that if I drove a Rover never would have affected me ; ) The bearings seem to just be a hiccup, when/if I replace the hubs to match my truck, it is no longer an issue. That said, I love the trailer, it's design and for the price, it was still a great purchase.

Hey, ... that comment about Land Rovers ... why ... I ought to ...

I resemble that remark! :smiley_drive:

I don't think the challenges are all that great with these. Remember, these are Euro spec trailers that were imported. The electrical system was not to US spec. Someone prior to Dean (Jurassic Cars) assembled the trailers, and it is quite possible that some of them were done with 'what ever could be found'. I have checked my trailer over and everything is grade 8.

Yes, I have mis-aligned doors, and the door handles suck, etc. But, ... if you go to their current models, many improvements were made after these 2002 models were imported. All in all, even if we had paid the full price of $9K to 12K on these, ... they were still a killer price. Especially when you consider just the roof top trailer tent retails for over $3K on Camping Labs sight.

Just sayin.

checked mine...

I agree with Dendy, but I checked my bolts last night... I have the 4.6s.... even the shock mounts. I guess that gives me something to do today ; )

more ?s

So the long bolts holding the springs to the axle are also 4.6s, should I replace those too? On one side the upper shock was held on with a 4.6, the other a 8.8 grade bolt.... odd. The bottoms were both 4.6s.

Final question. The adapter for the hose fitting in the back. What am I looking for? The female threaded part on the trailer is smaller than standard hose stuff.

Thanks

Replace ALL the 4.6's. They're just junk. I think that's even weaker than a Grade 5, probably more like a Grade 3.

no grade 8

wow, Lowes, Home Depot, Ace - nobody had metric grade 8 : (

ps Thanks Rob, luckily the spring bolts were 8.8 bolts afterall

You won't find metric Grade 8. It's called 8.8 for metric. 12.9 would be even better. What were you seeing?

Alternatively, if this is a bolt and nut, just go ahead and replace with the nearest size Grade 8 imperial size bolt and nut.

Metric

thanks, everyone has Grade 5....

I am going to Fastenall on Monday... finished refurbing my granddads stove and built the shelve after a bike ride... Great day other than driving for an hour with no luck...

As far as the pump not fitting, I bolted a hole saw to the end of a piece of all thread, made sure the tanks were full ( which ensured all those pieces of plastic floated to the top) and bored out the extra plastic that was preventing the pump from reaching the bottom of the tank. Works great now.

Thanks!

Question on water tanks. How do you clean them, between uses or the end of the season? Do y'all just rinse them out then fill?
