Here is the final fix for the front end. Next weekend I'm replacing the frame frame bolts seeing as how the front is only bolted the body.

This is a pic of the bent Shock bolt.

Still really happy with my purchase. These few issues still don't outshine the fact that this trailer was this inexpensive. I think I would have been ticked if I paid the full price with no warrenty but all in all I'm stoked.

I agree.

I agree still loving the purchase, and these little problems are helping me "learn" the trailer.
What do you mean - "

If you follow the hitch all the way back you'll see the main support for the box is bolted to the hitch fram rails not welded. But they are 8.8 bolts which from what Ive read thats the same as our grade 8's.

An 8.8 is closer to a grade 5. Grade 10.9 is closer to an 8 imperial. I'd think 8.8 is fine for the trailer. It's not just the ultimate strength we're concerned about either, with the higher grade bolts, quality control is better, etc. You just want to get rid of all those 4.9 (=3) stuff. That's what you build decks with, not trailers.

I agree, for the price they're still worth it. After seeing all this, if I'd known they were for sale for $5000, I'd have bought one instead of building my own, and just deal with these issues. I've got $2000 in mine already, and that's just steel and suspension/tires. Don't even have a tent yet. Not to mention labor...

I paid 8 large for mine, had a bearing fail, the battery will be 10 years old next month, and I have the crappy grade 5 hardware.
Still like the trailer of course; just wish I didn't get it when the economy was good...

So my shock upper bolts broke on my last trip. There were some really rough roads. I should have replaced them with the stronger bolts but I didn't even think about it. The problem is the bolts are in backwards so to get the broken part out the water tanks are in the way. Has anyone dropped these down yet? I either have to drop the the tanks or cut the bolts. I would rather cut the bolts but wondering what others have done.

If I remember right I had to cut the bolts and had replacement grade 8's ready to install but could find shocks that would fit so I kinda gave up. But in the end I'm pretty sure I had to cut the bolts.

I bought Weasels Compact when i got it the shocks were gone and the upper mounts were bent and the lowers plates for the shock bolts were tweaked ( not such a great design ). I pulled everything off and had gussets welded on the uppers and refabed the lowers with heaver stock and crush spacer then put it all back together with proper hardware. For shocks i found some Munroes that worked out pretty well. Its not perfect but far superior to stock i intended to do bump stops but got to busy with work and never did it. So far it has worked well every thing is holding up In my opinion these trailers are not well suited to hard trails an occasional obstacle is one thing but sustained hard wheeling and you are going to be busy with repairs. That being said it works well for my application. I will try to snap some pics and post if it helps.

PS i don't remember any particular trouble getting any of the bolts out but maybe i put it out of my head.

Eventually the bottom ones will go too:

After breaking them several times I replaced the bottom one with 4 mm unequal angle, drilled to replace the originals:

With the top mounts I took a 4mm plate, welded the original bush on and gusseted it. Works like a charm:

On the bump stops, I did ad bump stops on mine and ended up bending the chassis, having to replace the beams. If you are going to do this then make sure you have proper support, the chassis beams are inadequate.
