FJ advice needed!

I'm looking at purchasing an FJ Cruiser. Seeking any and all advice and things to look for and things to avoid. I am really seeking the classic Toyota longevity, does the FJ stack up with tacoma and 4runner? As this will be my fist Toyota I'd like it to last a long time.

Thanks ahead of time.

Yes, the FJ has the full Toyota DNA. Simply great vehicles. I have one of the first ever sold and I'll never part with it.

I have an 07 that currently has 133k and it has been a great rig.
I would also suggest heading over to the Blue Room and reading up over there on issues.
Already stated that the fender issue on early production 2007.
There was also a shudder issue when coming to stop and then starting again felt like you were rear ended but those were all fixed under warranty.
Space is limited but you learn to pack.
The blind spot issue is easily corrected with mirror setup.

But if you have a big family then it's probably not the right car for you.
'Either way put up some pics when you purchase.

I have an 07 and love it and also will probably never get rid of it.

But I second the large family issue: The back seat is great for kids but not adults, no leg room and no back seat visibility.

As mentioned you learn to pack and use the roof rack.

2010+ for the engine and rear end upgrades. Make sure you get one with a rear locker (almost all had it, but a few dont, the option wont add to the purchase price at all of a used FJ). Mine has been great, very comfortable, very tough. There is a huge aftermarket for them, you will find everything you need available from several vendors. The interior space is not really that small compared to my 3rd gen 4runner... The roof is much higher, so you need to pack up, not spread out.

Can't go wrong with the three options you are looking at. As the majority of folks will tell you on this site it will come down to what you intend to do with the rig and how you go about doing it (build strategy, function, purpose, cargo size--passenger and gear--, travel plans, etc.). I have a 2011 FJ NSSE in Army Green and love it. If you get the Tacoma and plan on putting an RTT or cab, that's obviously extra $$ for building a set-up on your bed or cab+roof rack. The newer 4Runners have great styling with a more "city driving" interior (IMO). The FJ feels like a comfortable fourby that should be driven outdoors and I don't worry too much about putting pin stripes on it when I hit the trails. There are a few threads on this site that call for roll calls on the FJ, 4Runner and Taco. I'd recommend browsing those threads and see what set up you like and what you want out of your rig. Whatever happens, good luck and keep us posted.

Guy and gals,

As always you've been a huge help. I test drove one FJ liked it, but the numbers did not work out. I'm off to test drive a 6 speed manual :smiley_drive: in the next day or two. If you have anything else to add don't hesitate to add to the thread.
