My experience with tents has been different. Most any tent requires seam sealing and detail work if you want perfection IMHO.

I never had to with my tents.

Maybe I haven't researched enough, never hear having to waterproof RTT's either, as it is already done.

I've had to seal plenty of tents and rain flies.

Yeah I dunno, never had a problem with my tents leaking, never sealed them.

The only thing I ever NikWaxed was a Marmot lightweight water "proof" wind breaker...still let water through even after NikWaxing it...:snorkel: $100 for that jacket...biggest POS.

Only use rubberized or vinyl rain jackets now, which are much cheaper...and actually work.:ylsmoke:

I too don't want to hijack this thread ...but ?

I bought my flip-pac used and I think it's a FRP , blue and seems like nylon ? It didn't fit as well as I thought it should either , the back didn't go all the way to past the corners like it should ? I do want to seal it , whats the best way and product to use on this big thing ? I would like to not have to worry about it rainning :snorkel:.

The FRP rain fly has a front and a back i.e. not square since the lid is slightly smaller than the base of the shell... flip it 180 degrees and it should fit.

Thanks TACODOC ,

I did try it both ways and figured it out the second time , but still didn't go all the way past the corners ? I could pull one side past the corner and tie it off then go over to the other side and pull the other one down , then the other side would still pull up ?

What did you use to seal it ?

Thanks Dave

I used about one liter of the NikWax Solar Proof on the FlipPac itself and have another liter for the storm cover. Not only is it a good wax that soaks in nice and gets in all the seams and stitching, it also provides some UV protection for your tent fabric.

Here is what I used:

I also worked on the storm cover, replacing the bungies that FRP has on these and replaced them with something a little more serious - secure and adjustable tie downs from Nite Ize.
This ought to make it easy to secure the cover!

If there's anybody else hanging on to thoughts about the windows now is the time. Right now Passenger windoor is the plan. Payment is ready, and I'm not sure how long I'll be able to restrain myself.
...must...hold...on! :coffeedrink:

Guess I should cast a vote on my own poll too. ;)

trump,

I went with a passenger side windoor w/ slider. It was a PITA logistically to have put in thanks to FRP. Thankfully Martyn and Mario @ AT made it happen in the end!
It works out xlnt for my application, providing me outside access to my fridge, dry food locker, shower/sprayer, water tank, etc.(inside /outside kitchen)

It worked out great for the pooches too, but alas no pooches & no wife anymore. I really miss the dogs...
The center screen is great for inside cooking or heater ventilation in my case too. (cold/rainy weather, or heavy bug locations).

BTW I still voted for bacon. :wings:F 100_4104a.JPGF 100_3887a.JPGF 100_4110.JPGF 100_3701.JPGF 100_4137.JPG
