Fly Fishing: My first fish

I spent the last few days on the San Juan River, near Pagosa Springs. We hired a guide and that made all the difference. The first part of the day was just teaching Stephanie and me to cast.

It was nearly improbable, but I had good fish karma, and caught a fish on my very first cast into the water. It was not in the river, but a well stocked pond, but still

Here is my first fish caught on a fly rod.

Super fun, and a great day with Stephanie and my friends in beautiful Colorado.

Awesome, Scott. When we were first married, I took my wife fishing for the first time, in Glacier national park, of all places. I SWEAR that she couldn't get her line in fast enough, and ended up catching about 8 -14"-18" Rainbow trout, that we immediately released (we had tons of food). Adding insult to injury I had been casting unsuccessfully for about 4 days before that..haha!

She was happy as a clam, and had the same grin you are wearing in that pic.

I grew up fly fishing along the front range. I still keep a fly rod or two around, although I haven't had a chance to wet a line in 10+ years.

Isn't it an amazing feeling when you FINNALLY catch something. It's a weird euphoria that you only get from Fly Fishing....welcome to a new addiction.....:wings:

The Pagosa area is one of my favorites for small stream fly fishing, but AZ also has its share of quality fly fishing in some of the remote mountains that would be right up your alley.

I'm an avid Salt Water fly fisherman and yes it is extremely addictive!

Sweet! It was my first time on memorial weekend this year. We fished the owens river - it was a blast! The feeling you get walking in the water is much more memorable than bait fishing from the shore. I caught a couple brown trout using the 'dip and strip' technique.

Step 1: try fly fishing
Step 2: Get addicted (this is a byproduct of step 1)
Step 3: as stated bring your hat and visa
Step 4: learn to tie fly's :victory: (this is very fun pasttime)
Step 5: Have fun
