2012 SoCal 459 Crawler – Major Upgrades and James Barroud Space RTT
Here’s your chance to get one ************** offroad teardrop trailer. Originally built by the folks at Canyon Country Teardrops & improved by Andy up at Great Lakes Teardrops, this Crawler is loaded up and ready to go (NOTE: I'm located halfway between Detroit and Chicago in SW Michigan). A growing family is forcing me to part ways with my dream trailer and time to find something with a bit more room.
This teardrop has what I believe is that best of all of the available options. Besides the standard items such as SoCal Custom Roof Basket, Power Up 30 Way Solar Panel, 6” Round Roof Vent, Dual RotoPax Fuel Cans PLUS Dual RotoPax Water Cans, it also has the front storage box that houses a brand new Interstate AGM Group 31 Battery, Max Coupler, Rear Standard Hitch, and 2 side auxiliary receivers, pass through galley to the rear hatch, awesome propane stove (these are the best features), but no refrigerator. (My YETI serves me just fine)
I purchased a little over a year ago and spent the better part of 3 weeks in it. Hands down a great towing trailer. After spending the first night with the “smaller fam” I decided to add the James Baroud Space Roof Top Tent to add a little more sleeping room. At 6’3 & 225 I had plenty of room sleeping up there. Tent has been slept in less than 5 nights since I added it late last season.
After the end of the camping season here in Michigan I took the camper up to one of the best builders (in my own opinion) for SoCal, Andy Porter, of Great Lakes Tear Drops for some winter love. Andy did the following just this past winter:
New Jack w/ Hard Rubber wheel (A huge upgrade over the plastic ones)
Matching Spare tire was mounted underneath
Added the 5 Gallon, Side mounted LP Tank Holder
Replaced the fender mount side treads with brand new Vinyl
Replaced the 7 Pin wiring Connector
In addition to all of this, I’ve personally added what I felt a lot of these were missing. A Majestic 19” 12volt HD TV with swivel mount and global tuner. Hands down the best investment made for those rainy days spent couped up in the camper. It’s the exact same one you see in the super high end boats, and I figure it’d work equally as well in a camper…..bottom line…it does!
Priced at a competitive $16,500 which is about $15K less than you’d pay for a new one and you won’t be waiting 6-9 months to have yours built. For those located across the country a little perspective on shipping. Found a guy on uShip that delivered it from the far SouthWest corner of Colorado to Michigan for $500. Don’t be afraid to have it delivered. PM more serious inquires and more pictures. As a note, it’s going in later this week for the bearings to be greased (week of June 4).
If you’ve been looking for a SoCal this is your chance. It’s one hell of a camper, and you won’t be disappointed.
PS: Here’s some of the “issues” if you really want to call them that. Slight areas of surface rust on the frame…nothing major by any means but just letting you know. (It spent the first winter here in Michigan in a nice heated garage so no worries there). One the back hatch there’s a small 1” x ½” indentation where the previous owner closed the hatch on a beer bottle. Didn’t break through, and you most likely won’t even notice it. On the front side there was a little tire rub from when we had the spare tire strapped to the front prior to moving it below.
