Ford 4x4 Exhaust

This is a question for all of my DIY 4x4 e-series owners. How did you route your exhaust to be able to put your driveline in and who did the work? Was it a local shop or a friend etc?

I recently had an issue with an exhaust shop not wanting to touch my exhaust because of "federal laws" and am wondering what's true and what isn't and how to explain to them it's not illegal to re route my exhaust.

Thanks!

Depending on what motor you have your exhaust might not wind up in the way. My 7.3 exhaust didn't need rerouted.

I have a 6.8l v10 and my exhaust is most definitely in the way. But it has also been re routed from original when it was an "advanced" 4x4 (1979 f250 Dana 44) and now it's an "MG" 4x4 (2013 f250 Dana 60)

Definitely what I want to do but for the sake of others and their DIY 4x4 kits I am trying to figure out how to go about it correctly. Does everyone with a 4x4 van that has a DIY kit find the shadiest part of town to get their exhaust done?

Hmmmm, guess you're gonna have to move out of the portland-metro where people have bigger problems.....
Pics of yours for clarification?

Ha ha ya seriously. I'll get one soon. Just picture what the stock exhaust would look like for a v10, and then picture the rear drivers side cat removed and the pipe bent more up and that's what it looks like.

Some sort of lost...
I'm surprised someone like Chris hasn't got together with AFE or someone to make a complete y pipe. Guess it would be spendy to sell it with a couple high flow cats though.

I wonder if it will throw a code if you remove both rear cats. Looks like there are sensor bungs upstream and downstream of the first cats, but nothing behind the second set. The goal is to run the cross pipe under the transmission bell housing, over the to passenger side correct? I'm just outside of deq boundaries myself but I'll be looking for a solution very soon too.

We've done it many many ways and recently bought an exhaust machine to bring it all i house. Our fav way to free up space now is to move the D side cat to the pass side and route the tube under the bellhousing. Works well, I'll post some pics of the 5.4 we're doing now as soon as the new exhaust is in.

I'll be excited to see this photo so I have a visual to bring to the exhaust shop in order to get the work done on my rig.

Voodoo7.3 - thanks for the link and I wish that was my issue but my problem is the drivers side cats are placed in the way of the front driveshaft.

Jsweezy, I know, Buddy! I read the whole thread and looked at the pic. I left that link in case you wanted a nice Wye intersection instead of that Tee while fabricating all to work together. A tight Wye like that FloMstr is the hardest part to make and weld tight. A Tee is easy but creates a-lot of turbulence. Any decent exhaust shop can take it from there! 4 cats will give you enough restriction as it is! Good luck!

Ha ha ok, I just wasn't sure.

This was more of what I was thinking of doing when I went to the exhaust shop and they weren't gonna have any part of it.

This is a quadvan exhaust.

Not sure how all you DIY guys do your vans exhaust but I would love to hear how it isn't in your way.
