Ford E-series HID

I could be tempted to do some of the HID retrofits for other members here, but you would need to contact me via personal message to work out the details and timing. The HID projector retrofit isn't as costly as you might think, especially compared the TruckLites LED units that don't provide nearly the same output and beam pattern. Let me know if you are interested and we can run down the pricing and options.

Just to bump this, I had Redoval send me a set of his HID retrofit lights. Very reasonable cost, and he was great to work with. They came well packaged with a set of detailed instructions. You just need to order the bulbs and wiring (about $45 total) from eBay. My bulbs will be here on Wednesday and I will install them next weekend. I will post up pics/impressions then.

Have someone drive towards you in a car and see if you blind them. I'm curious because not only do I despise HID conversions, I'm also not a fan of OEM HID's.

I'm also getting this done! meeting up with him in the morning to get it all installed.
That's one more thing checked off my To Do List!

OEM HID's and a proper HID retrofit (like Redovals) is a spectacular improvement over any other automotive light set up. You're really missing out. I know this is going to come across rather condescending, but it's not how I intend it... I just can't find a smoother way to word it. You must not have ever experienced a proper projector HID.

A proper HID set up has such a beautiful cut off line. It directs ALL of the usable light down towards the ground and NONE is shining up into the eyes or mirrors of other drivers on the road. Most factory and aftermarket HID's have 35W bulbs.... with that 35W of light output, you get to use the entire 35W to see the road and ditches ahead of you.

A regular OEM halogen style bulb is typical 55W... (20W MORE than an HID) a LOT of light is scattered upwards due to the lens design and doesn't help you at all. This means more glare and light shining onto oncoming traffic and less usable light hitting the road where you need it.

Halogens use more energy, have a much worse light dispersion and have more glare in the eyes of other drivers than a projector HID. There's no way around it.

When people swap an HID bulb into a halogen housing WITHOUT using a projector, it also creates a lot of glare on other drivers and is generally considered a step in the wrong direction. A proper HID consists of the bulb and a projector to control the light cut off.

It's great for the owner of the vehicle who has the HID's but not for the guy who is driving towards them. My daily driver is a Ford Aspire and is much closer to the ground than a van or a truck that most drive here. Even many OEM HID's drive me crazy. When I'm driving my E350 it doesn't bother me as bad since I'm sitting up a couple more feet.

That argument is like claiming that speed bumps feel much more rough when you're driving your Smart Car than when you're in an F350... you chose the car you drive, you can't blame other people for your own actions.

Not all HIDs blind other drivers, some are less blinding than regular halogens for the cutoff line mentioned previously. Also, HID lighting is awesome. I was amazed at how good it is when I got my Corvette. Even low beams are great, but on high beam in the middle of nowhere, it's a thing of beauty.

Still I'm thinking I'll go with a light bar in the grill of my E350, wired up to the high beams.

Totally wrong analogy. People are illegally modifying their headlights and causing safety issues for others.

I look forward to the review and impressions.

Went with the Trucklite's. Definitely spendy but worth it to be able to see at night. The old halogens were really terrible...
