Depark, I'd be concerned with blocking off airflow by putting a 20" bar in the other space... Perhaps it wouldn't be a problem, but the vans aren't known for excessive ventilation under the hood.

I had thought about that. I don't think it will be an issue. I don't know if you can see in the picture but the opening is already half blocked by a pump. It is part of a backup steering pump that is part of the wheelchair conversion. I have never had high temps so far and it has been like this since 2006. Also I am replacing the grill with a new one because mine has warn all the finish off. The new one has the sides that look like mesh actually open so that should counteract any loss of ventilation from blocking the opening.
Thanks
Darryl

Got mine installed

Finally got mine installed this weekend. Redoval was easy to work with and his instructions were great. Very easy to install - the hardest part was routing the wiring harness, and that wasn't hard. The improvement over stock is astounding! Sorry about the crappy cell phone pic. B

HID Retrofit

I installed my HID retrofit kit thanks to Redoval and his instructions but had an issue. The van is a 2003 7.3 diesel and when I turn the lights on the idle drops dramatically and the van drives like it is in a limp mode. It seemed better once the engine warmed up but still a noticeable change when the lights are on vs off. Both batteries are less than a year old. Digging around on the internet it sounds like a power issue but seems like the 7.3 alternator would put out plenty of power to fire the ballasts. I have a scanguage and the battery voltage when running stays high. Has anyone run in to this before? Any ideas?

PS lights look awesome and don't even compare to stock. They have a very defined cut off line so you can keep them aimed out of oncoming drivers eyes.

Thanks

Are you using a relay or is the extra draw directly on the stock headlight wiring system?

Sylvania Xtravision is the rectangular sealed beam to have them and are not wanting a major upgrade and expense. Sylvania Silverstars burn out too fast and the funny color is not any better making the Xtravision the best bang for the buck if you want better lighting. Dirt cheap at Autozone. Don't believe? Go buy one and compare it to what you have. The next trick is to adjust them. These vans are lifted and loaded and the simple adjustment gets neglected. I hit them with the windshield cleaning squeegee everytime I get gas. I love the lights on my 2002.
One thing that people don't know is that as bulbs age they get dimmer. Try a set of fresh Sylvania Xtravision bulbs and then jump out and tweak the adjustment a few times and most should be more than happy with the improved lighting besides truck drivers carry BB pistols to take out your windshield if you blind them. Good for them for administering street justice.

I replaced mine with the "brighter" xtra vision headlights... Should've save myself some money... They're ok in town, but useless on dark roads. At $20/each, I'm very disappointed!

Next set I'm buying some ANZO headlights, $23/each including a 55/60 H4 bulb. They've got a glass face and will work with a standard H4 bulb.

I wrapped up more lights for a fellow Expo member recently. This variation of black non-led housings, HID kit and harness is by far the most popular. Came out looking pretty good!

That's a nice combo. The day I get closer to put mine back on the road it will be on top of the list!

Cheers
