Drove over the scale.
parameters: full fuel tank, 1 occupant, all cabinetry installed, drawers are filled, camping gear on board. Ad 29 gallon for water and bedding, clothing to get travel configuration.
measured at 3360kg /7407lb
4309 kg / 9499lb are allowed according to the insurance papers.
this leaves us an estimated 500kg/1100lb below max weight when fully loaded with two adults and one child. These numbers make me very happy!

What is the GVWR? It takes precent over the insured capacity.

The vehicle is transport Canada certified. Cab chassis trucks always come as an “incomplete” vehicle and are not road safetied. You need to go through a shop that has the authority to issue the certification. In our case, we are working closely together with ITB in Surrey BC. They are the biggest truck body manufacturer in western Canada and already doing most of our assemblies and subframes for our expedition truck customers. compliance to US laws and certification is also done on a daily basis.

We are getting a lot of interest in our camper bodies for the transit and sprinter platform. A handful has already been delivered all over the USA.
i thought I should make the most asked questions public:

-can I get a bigger cab over? Of course! Anything up to a king size bed is possible.
-can I get the cabin without a cab over? Of course!
- longer, wider, taller, you name it ?
- can you pre assemble the boxes including mounting holes in the floor? Yes of course. Assembled boxes on average only cost around $2000 more. As long as they are small enough to fit inside a shipping container.
- i don’t need a full walk through to the drivers cab, can I just install a small door? For sure. It’s better for security and to keep heat and cold out of the camper.
- how do you like the transit? so far we have done around 2500 miles with it since January. it drives like a car. No sway, no bumpy ride going over speed bumps or rough roads. The only thing we don’t like is the relatively low ground clearance. I think our Subaru Outback got more... but then , it’s not meant to be a competitor to a unimog or lmtv.

I thought the Transit GVWR was higher. The GVWR number I had in my brain was for a Spinter.

A NSM is required for companies seling vehicles but it is not the same for individials. Each state and province has differnt regulation regarding the NSM for incompete vehicles being registerd/insured by individuals.

With Dual Wheels you get a higher rating. I personally like to stay single rear wheel. Plenty enough fore our use.

Did a little summery with specs and built cost. Our goal was to stay below $100.000. This means anyone could build the same for 20.00 to 50.000 less than the cheapest low quality off the shelf RV. Don't forget: YOU, the builder will be in charge and full control of the quality and components your using!
We did not go cheap... Go with AGM batteries and skip some other details and the price will come down by 10.000 or more.

Can't wait to takes this baby on the road and show all of you at the expos and Overland Rallies!

No duty then? Seems like it would be well worth it, if you can assist with mounting.

The tariff is crazy. If you could count on that lasting forever you could probably figure away around it (some US fab?)... but you can't.
