What do people think of BFG's new 33X9.50 size? I'm putting new tires on my rig, but I don't have enough experience with tires to know which is better between the 33x9.50 and 10.50 sizes.
I have been running the 33x9.50-15 BFG AT KO. I like them.
I do not see other choices for this tire size. If you want a selection of tread designs , this is not the size that will offer choices.
They do have advantages. Light weight, low rolling resistance, and good clearance. I can air up to 40 lbs for highway driving and still get even tread wear on 7" wheels. I can air down for offroad adventures and have a nice long foot print.

I hope they are still around when It comes time to replace them. If they are not, I will have to go to the wider 10.5.

I am running the 32x11.50 BFG AT right now and was going to switch to the 33x10.50 when I just happened across the 9.50 size. Thanks for the info, I think I'm proubably going to go with them since they are cheaper then the MT and I remember the tires I've used over seas being very tall and narrow, and working GREAT for expedition work. It is too bad that you are limited to just the AT in that size, but I've been pretty happy with mine.

Got them mounted Sat night. I like them. They are reletively smooth and dont vibrate like some of the other horror stories Ive heard. Not nearly as noisy as I thought either. So far so good. Ill give a full report after I run them in the trophy.

I ran those on Patch. I liked them for use in the Mojave. I've no idea how they might work elsewhere. Since I had 8" rims to work with I next went to the 10.50 size in the MT. Those worked about the same, but were noisier, so now I'm running the 10.50 AT and I went to a 7" rim width. On an '84 Xcab Yota aired down for the desert with any of the three has been 19 psi. I run them @ 30 on the pavement (& when chasing desert racers) and get even wear.

I just ran down to the Discount Tire shop with this thread printed off. The guy there came out with a 35" tire (i do not remember the exact size) and he said it would not fit - no way - no how. Now keep in mind I have an 05 Taco with 3" of lift. He was not even willing to trial fit it - said it was a waste of time. (I really hate it when people wont let me waste money...)

Not being a savvy truck tire guy, I will be curious as to your application Ron and how the setup works for you.

just to make sure - you do realize that any 35" will not fit your 05 taco with 3" lift unless you do MAJOR cutting of sheetmetal and possibly frame. 33" will be the limit...

Well, that is kinda what I thought, however I saw Ron's thread and have heard of this being done, so I wanted to investigate. The tires I have now are 31.7 and are just fine - a 33" will only net me around .60 inches more ground clearance. Hardly worth the time and money. But - if a 35 would work - then I would be much happier! So I wait - and hopefully learn...

100 mile update. Got the rig on the road and made a round trip to Denver. Ran smooth on the road. The tires are not as loud as I thought. I mean I had to turn the AC down to the lowest fan setting and turn the radio off to make it really obvious. I took dirtroads on the way back and noticed the tires were alot smoother and really shined there vs. the Bridgestone duellers I had on before. Just a quick update for those waiting.

They were not really any loader than BFG Mts.

I much prefer the BFG MT over Super Swampers. The SS wear out a lot faster as the rubber is softer. The BFG MT is a great tire with long wear and excellent traction. I don't buy anything else for off road myself.

Cool, glad you're liking them so far. I am considering them for a Mexico & Central America trip this coming summer. Interested in seeing it used as an expedition vehicle. Some reviews are claiming 40k on the 32" tires...

Interco Tire has decided to sponsor my website and trips! I must say after running them as hard as I did in Mexico, this is the only tire Ill use. Though not recommended I actually cruised for well over an hour at 110mph+!

They held up great and hardly looked used after the trip! I did writeup a little more about these HERE!
