Hope you're having a good birthday so far this morning!

Its "busy" season for me right now, but yeah, we should definitely get a san diego run together. SWR (scenic wonder runner aka, Mark) does quite a few runs in the campo/Anza area only a monthly basis, you should check out his threads too.

Good luck with your choice. I think your XJ is a good rig, but this is definitely a well rounded, honest group of Rover guys and gals. They'll be immensely helpful if you go the DI or DII way.

I have an 02 Disco. I've replaced the head gaskets, brakes twice, ABS unit, water pump and looks like I'm due for a new rear hub assembly. My rear door locks just took a dump and my stereo works on various US and foreign holidays. I've plunked down over $4000 in repairs in 35,000 miles.

However, I still love the old girl.

That's what I was talking about as regards "expedition friendly". Couple hundred dollars to replace a DII hub vs. $12 x 2 for very common bearings for a D1 hub. Not to mention needing to apply 400 lb/ft of torque in the middle of nowhere to get the axle nut off.
