Thanks for bringing back this thread! We are leaving for Croatia in a couple days, so this provides nice inspiration!

Looks like a great trip. How technical did you find the routes, especially in Montenegro? I am looking at doing a Balkans trip in the near future, though only in a mildly modified Subaru.

As everything else, it's what you make of it. But you'd be fine on the tracks i drove. You can easily make it in a AWD Subaru.
There were lots of off-shoot tracks that looked difficult, but the main (Trans Euro Trail) is rather easy.
