History:
Originally a Florida car, this LX450 was probably used a soccer mom vehicle for most of its former life. Bought in 2009 by a Land Cruiser enthusiast and moved to New York State, this car then began a transformation to ‘Expedition' ready status with good maintenance and rebuilds, a lift and some armor. This enthusiast had another LX450 which was his primary rig and built to a very high level. I felt confident I was buying a great rig off a good guy. I bought the car in 2012, continued the maintenance and added more mods for camping. As far as I am aware, the rig was never used for rock crawling, just easy trails. My wife and I have enjoyed numerous trips in this great rig, exploring the south west in the Texas Hill Country, West Texas (Big Bend National Park), New Mexico and Arizona. We are selling as we are actually expatriates living in the US, and
we are being transferred by our company to Angola - hopefully we can pick up a similar cruiser in Africa to continue exploring....
This cruiser drives and handles brilliantly, the Old Man Emu set up is perfect and really improves the characteristics of the rig. When I get into unmodified Cruisers it's chalk and cheese. With the current set up, the rig responds better and better as it's loaded up for your next trip.
As it currently stands, we are probably departing the US within the next couple of months so the rig has been taken to our mechanic Javier at his shop the Gulf Coast Crawl Shop (the only place to go in Houston for serious Land Cruiser love). The rig leaked a lot of oil on our last trip (but never ran dry, watched it diligently and kept it topped up) so it obviously need a look over - Javiers assessment is the rig needs the Timing Cover gasket replaced and a new oil pump. I'm happy for any prospective buyers to talk directly to Javier, I've told him be 100% fair in his assessment to help with the purchase. Javier could do the work for us, but if any enthusiasts want to tackle it, you get a great rig at a great price. The rig is drivable, but it LEAKS oil when under series load (which is any hill at 65mph in an FJ80)
An accident report shows up on the car fax report, best I can tell, it was a minor drivers side rear quarter panel dent. Everything has checked out perfect on the repair, you can not tell what happened. It's been through numerous pre purchase inspections and no one has even mentioned it.
