SOLID AXLE front and rear! there is actually suspension travel in the front suspension.

its a little rough still in the ride, but that'll get better when i work on the suspension.

the engine has very good low end power. just breath on the pedal and it'll crawl right up stuff. the commander only did that when it was in low range. i didn't stick it in low range once.

i can't do to much crazy stuff yet because of the gas tank hanging so low. but as soon as i get it lifted i'll try some more stuff out.

it'll get an ARB in the rear and i'll go to 3.73 gears in the axles with some 33's:smiley_drive:

Junkyard dog...

I dig this build. I'm a junkyard scrounger myself and have been folloing along here. Sad the diesel didn't work out but the 360 is a good motor.
I have one word of caution though, and some here may find this disagreeable. Those "coil overs" you got... I would toss them in the garbage. My personal experience with those is they are a dangerous bandaid. They are not anything like "real" coil over suspension stuff...they are shocks with coil spring helpers. You run leaf springs, I suggest leaving (no pun intended) it that way and just use a good pair of regular shocks. What you got was something that mounts on the shock bolts/pins. If you think about it...any "lift" achieved by these is doing so by appling all the weight and force of driving the vehicle onto an area about the size of your finger. If the tires fit now and the bolt/pin shears...the suspension will collapse and the tire will eat the fender...potential accident...don't ask me how I know...
You shouldn't need them but if you need a couple inches more clearance and don't want to (ahem, sorry..another pun) spring for a lift..at least do shackles up front and add a leaves or blocks (yuk, but better than the faux coilovers) in the rear...Just for saftey sake.
Best wishes and good luck!

i threw the coil springs in the trash. the ride is so much better now!

i would never use those for my vehicle.

i just took it on a highway trip today. i finally have all the stuff working the best it can. the carb is still a pain in the ********. i swear it changes everyday where it wants to idle. its really irritating. as soon as i can its getting fuel injection.

anyway, i drove it about 200 miles round trip today on the highway. it did great. it barely slows down on hills even with 3.07 gears and 31" tires. the motor has a lot of low end grunt. i think i was getting 15-17 mpgs. i got the cruise control sorted out yesterday and working so i used it on the trip today. man i love cruise!

there are some issues that still have to be addressed before it goes on any major four wheeling trips.

*lift kit (spring over front, shakle reversal out back, new shocks)- the 42 gallon fuel tank is a rock magnet
*33" tires
*3.73 gears
*selectible rear locker
*storage inside
*roof rack for spare tire, jack, shovel, etc
*steering after lift is completed
*i also need to rebuild the steering box. it pukes crap out of the top seal pretty fast. although it seems to be getting better the more i drive it.
*a shift kit for the transmission
*3.73 gears
*brake lines
*TBI
*sound deadening material, its very loud like a tin can inside.

i really love the simplicity of the vehicle and how easy it is to work on. its also really easy to buy parts for. solid axles rule!

Have you thought about doing the roll-on panit thing that was brought up in another thread....the link to the one using boat paint looked pretty good for a roll-on job.
