well i dumped 5 gallons in the gas tank. the i stuck some down the carb.

it fired right up. then it died.

guess ill put another 5 gallons in it and see if it'll pull fuel. if not, i guess its time for a new fuel pump.

alright, i tore down the carb. this is only the second carb i have ever tried to mess with. i rebuilt a carb on my chainsaw last summer.

anyway. i tore it all down and took it to work to soak in the bucket of carb cleaner. this carb was horrible inside. there was all kinds of dirt in the carb and even a bunch of dead bugs.

now, this carb didn't come on the jeep i bought. my jeeps carb had been robbed before i bought it. i pulled this carb off another jeep in the junkyard.

i'll have to say taking it apart was really easy. i couldn't find any instructions on the interweb. i've seen some before, but i couldn't find it after i needed it.

anyway, i got a kit at Carquest. it was $35. after soaking for 5 hours i pressure washed the carb. then blew it dry with air.

i spent the 3 hours reassembling it. its all ready to go. i'll stick it on tomorrow and see how it goes. it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. if it lasts me a year while i save up for throttle body injection i'll be really happy.

sorry no pictures of the rebuild. i couldn't be bothered enough to take pictures.

any idea how this electronic kick down should be set? is the rod supposed to be all the way out when the secondaries open?

i think the choke is set right. if not i think i can get it right.

hopefully tomorrow i'll have it running.

<fingers crossed />

Hope it works for you. Would be best to get the beast sorted before adding nice stuff like EFI.

ITS ALIVE!!!!!!

i rebuilt the carb last night! first one ever!

i need to do some adjustments to the carb! and burn off the rest of the crappy gas, but IT RUNS.

i checked my antifreeze and its good to go. i'll change that in about a month with a new water pump, and block heater!:smiley_drive:

no i just need to get it registered and insured!

video coming up!

up next:

33 mt's
spring over up front, shackle reversal out back
weld the rear axle
then some steering work!
adding a second fuel behind the rear axle out of a 80s-90's suburban

then just some small upgrades to electrical,

i took some time tonight to buff it out. its pretty impressive from a far. up close you can tell the paint is 31 years old. my wife was watching figure skating and the kids were in bed, so i decided i'd rather work on the waggy.

i also installed my CB.

sorry blackberry pictures.

"new" wheels and tires. i painted the wheels black today. my youngest son sanded each wheel. he has a short attention span, but i didn't care to much.

Coolness! Nothing makes you feel more accomplished than rebuilding a carb and having your V8 fire up! Just don't ever rebuild one in the kitchen on your wifes butcher block table....she'll remind you of it at least 15 years later.

Nice wag!

Cool rig and progress but boooo on taking the slot mags off...

Redeem yourself to the Jeep gods and put the slots back on. :D
