Fuel Consumption

the FG84 (FG140) came out in the usa for the 2005 model year.

The DPF did not happen until the 2008 model year when they also did away with the SWB model, plus the standard LWB model gained about 4" I think.

So basically, in the usa, 2007 is the last good year.

otherwise you have to buy a 2008-2011 for an extra $5-6K and then delete the extra $5-6K worth of DPF garbage you never wanted in the first place.

The 2012 DPF may be too integrated to easily delete the system?

DPF's are evil.

litres/100km for FG649E over 30,000km (47 tanks full) is the orange line. Slightly higher fuel consumption around fill 20 was due to a hard to find fuel leak.

Here are a few more figures.
Average is around 16.4 litres/100kms. These figures are from a mix of dirt and bitumen (70-100kph) with small amount of low gear off road. All up weight 4200kg
Julians average looks about the same - interesting, he has a larger frontal area, but taller tires.

Fuel Cost

Wow, and I thought our fuel was expensive in Canada. Diesel is $1.23 AUD/$1.30 CAD per litre here, at the moment.

Thanks a lot for the feedback, it really helps to understand if this is an option for me. Keep it coming!

Wow, and I thought our fuel was expensive in Canada.

thats nothing in AUS the further you get away from metrpolitan areas the higher the cost of fuel
when you get to remote areas expect anything up to and over $2 a litre this is due to transport cost?? (aparently it costs 10 times more to transport fuel than anything else)
we also have the good old fuel price cycle
where fuel is expensive at one part of the week and cheap at another
the expensive day is always pay day (thursday) and normaly cheap on tuesdays as much as 15 cents per litre in some places
of course this changes when public holidays fall on cheap days
apparently fuel pricing is a complex procedure that only the oil companies understand, way to complex for the average aussie to comprehend
of course we do have a government body in OZ to make sure the consumer isnt getting ripped off
apparently they dont get it either
so we the driver just do our best porn actress impersonation and lay back and take it
