Fuel Transfer Tank

I was thinking of a similar idea. Using a 10-15 gallon racecar fuel cell and mount it under the bed with a electric fuel pump. You would move fuel from it to the to the regular fuel tank when more fuel was needed. This would keep the factory fuel system intact and you could store fuel low and not take up bed space.

That one looks pretty good!

In CA they regulate extra gasoline fuel tanks and would proabably ding you for it during a smog check if they saw the tank and filler neck.

Can't quite figure out how that tank works. I don't see a fill tube. Did I miss something?

The fill on that tank is top left, the pump, either electric or manual, threads in to the right side opening.

oxi- we use them on all of our work trucks, mostly for offroad diesel for the various machinery we run. I don't have one in my personal rig, but have thought that it would be a more cost effective way to hold more fuel if one was to invest the time to plumb it all up...or say if you had a trailer just mount one in there over the axle, easy squeezy.

I am looking for a mechanical pump one, my concern is if I place a topper on my pickup with this tank underneath up against the back of the cab in the bed, what concerns wil I have with the vent? Do I have to snake the vent up to the roof of the topper or just install a vent on the topper altogether?

ofcourse you have to throw a hitch into it!:sombrero: I personally would call a manufacturer ands speak with them about venting as the tanks are nearly always installed in topperless trucks or flatbeds. You'll also need to sort out a hose that will be long enough for your needs, as most are only 8-10'.

you shouldnt have a problem with smog..... as long as its not plumbed into the existing lines. I know several people hear in CA that do this and use it to fill up their boats, tractors .. all non comercial and have never been questioned about it. It's none of there business what the fuel is used for as long as you dont tie into the vehicles lines.

God I'm glad I live in Oregon! No checks of any kind and if someone saw it in an oil change place they would go " cool idea dude tell all about it. I want one ":smiley_drive:

I have or have had three vehicles with aux fuel tanks, all filled the OEM tank via gravity feed.

My first was my old '85 Nissan Pickup with a now-defunct Auxiliary Fuel Systems 15 gallon tank that went up above the spare tire in back of the rear axle. Worked great except for the slow filling after the first 15 gallons. My longest trip without refilling was over 550 miles in the SE Oregon and NW Nevada deserts.

My '85 Toy 4runner has a 26 gallon NOS Blazer diesel tank where the spare tire used to go. It feeds via a small flow-thru filter into the main OEM tank through a NW Metal Products tank fitting and a 3/8" ball valve. Having about 45 gallons of fuel in my 4runner is a good feeling when out in the boondocks with only $5.50 gas available.

My '06 F-350 PSD has a Northern Tool/RDS 90 gallon aux fuel tank, which also feeds into the OEM main tank via the RDS gravity feed kit and a 5 micron water separator filter. It takes up 14" of bed space, which is about it's only disadvantage. I can go over 6000 miles and only have to refuel 3 or 4 times during the entire trip even when towing my Toy around.

Good luck.
