Hi Dan, hows everything in that neck of the woods?
I should have the front diff housing and suspension back in tomorrow, it's full steam ahead!!

I have the same tires on my Jimny, a bit smaller though. :) A little noisy but I think that is kind of expected on a tire like that. Haven't been able to test them in any hardcore offroading yet but they work well in the short runs I have done in the wood behind my work. :)

Good to see you getting there, things are going well over this way (work). I'm waiting to see you get it on the road to see how your turbo setup runs as that is what I'll be doing next. I'd also like to inquire about a front diff centre for mine. Do you have them available? Can't afford to get left behind on our Cape trip.

Dan.

Sat the front suspension back in today, just spend a fortune on seals ,bearings, boots etc for the swivel hubs. I thought i would hook up the inverter charger to give the batteries an equalizing charge, it seems to work very well, the inverter is 1600w cont and 50 amp battery charger with solar input facility.

Hi Alan
Any details on the inverter, brand, supplier, seems to be what I am looking for?

Thanks
Pete

One thing to watch out for when it comes to inverters for our application is self consumption. The PIP-1614 pictured consumes 2.4A @ 24v (57.6watts) according to http://www.mppsolar.com/manual/PIP-LC user manual.pdf which is 1384 watt hours/day or the same as a 300 watt solar panel generates in a whole day under ideal conditions.
The equivalent Victron unit, a Multiplus 1600 (1600va, 70A charger, ~$1600) self consumes just 8 watts. The victron doesn't have an inbuilt solar regulator but their 50A MPPT model self consumes just 0.01 Amps (.24 watts). When I did the math on the roof space vs solar panel vs battery vs inverter cost the more expensive Victron unit ended up a lot cheaper overall.

Certainly something to consider with inverters, i found the original invoice $550 aud so good value at the end of the day.

I spoke to the manufacturer today, apparently inverters with transformers have a higher idle current than inverters that are transformerless.

Both have transformers, Its the design of the transformer thats the issue. The toroidal (donut shaped) transformer that the Victron uses often have lower leakage inductance and more power per KG than laminated transformers. They also have better load regulation so you get less sag as load increases. We're almost all 240v (fridge, induction cooking, oven, air conditioner) so the efficiency is more critical than most trucks, if you're not going to have it running 24/7 the self consumption is pretty irrelevant anyway :)

The bottom of the struts look a little "fragile" there Alan. I'm sure you have done your homework on them though, they just look kind of weak? What are they off if you don't mind me asking.

The struts are toyota 200 series front struts, I've never seen one brake yet so fingers crossed, there is a lot of question marks on this truck but i hope 38 years working on 4wd's most will be ok, i can always change them to Kings coil overs if they fail, they make them for 200 series.. i should have the front end all done this weekend:)

worked all day on the truck today, got the front end together all ok, brakes are operational! changed the front coil springs from raised h/duty to std height h/duty as there was only 10mm of droop, now it has 25mm so I will leave it until the truck is finished and recheck but i'm hoping it should be about right now, it is now sitting on the alloy wheels, very light and easy to fit!:smiley_drive: also found a good quality fuse box from blue sea ideal for the truck.
