Mount up...

I got stuck into the canopy today. The SJS canopy I bought already had the roof rails fitted. I searched on Gumtree and came across a set of Rhino Aero bars at 1200mm long for $50.

I ditched the clamp on legs and bought a set of HD feet to integrate with the track. Chuck in a few T bolts and a couple of end caps and there was another $150.

The bars needed a bit of internal trimming to bring the mounts 25mm in.

The rear spoiler was busted on the canopy so I used the mounting holes to fit two more 18w flood lights. I'll wire these up to my zombie light switch. This will give 270 degree illumination...

The internal lining had a few tears. I want to maximise the internal space so decided this had to go. I also removed the underlip tub liner.

This will reclaim a bit of space and let me run the air, water and power lines before the draw
Install.

Insert the nutsert...

The next stage of the evolution from moving form a soft cover to a canopy involved getting rid of the black plastic 'knobs' for the bungee loops.

There are some plastic buttons that for some reason people reference that they use on Fords. These are about $1.40ea then you need to colour match them unless you want black.

I wanted an excuse to get a nutsert tool. So this was as good as any...

I unscrew'd all Philips head self tappers and drilled and de-burred 6mm holes.

Add a bit of paint...

Fit the rivnut. I used M4 for these then used a domed head Allen key fastener in Stainless.

Nice. I like that type of allen bolts. I used them (SAE 1/4-20) to seal up my OEM roof rack nutserts after I removed the stock rack. Color works well with Silver or Gold rigs.

Functional storage...

I trial fit the draws today. I bought a Drifta car back combo, with a pull out table, side wing kit, storage locker and MSA drop down fridge slide.

This is the full unit. The RHS side is a full length draw 1400 D x 550W x 300H. It's got a couple movable dividers...

On top of that draw sits the table. This can be either a pull out bench or free standing...

The LHS houses the pull out kitchen. This is about 950D x 380W x 300H. It has it's own pull out draw, cutlery tray and top that flips over to make about 1600mm bench space...

And the table...

y7y6u2yq.jpg

I also got a blank draw so if we don't want the kitchen, ie traveling with the CT we can chuck the draw blank in and have a standard two draw setup with the pull out table...

All up it was $2400 for the draws, kitchen, table, wing kit MSA drop slide GST and delivery.

Now to get the water tank in, secure the cabinet and bolt down the drop slide.

Thanks mate. This is the first vehicle I've ever had draws in.

So I've got everything installed the day before we head to Tasmania. I fitted a 40lt Boab Polly water tank against the headboard. I fitted a constant pressure Sureflow inline pump. It's self priming and pressurises to 35psi.
Add 3m of retractable braided hose and we've got water on demand...

I wired up a 6 outlet switch panel to control lights, pump, 2 x 12v outlets and on board air. The SJS canopy has quite a large sweep of the rear window. As such it took a little messing around to get the drop slide running smooth.

All up I'm very happy with how it all came together. I'm sure there will be a little tweaking over the next few weeks though that's all part of the fun.

Nice setup but are you sure having a water spigot right above electricals is a good idea? Otherwise your rigs mods are coming along really nicely.

Thanks for the comment.
The power board I used is for a marine application. It has an IP68 water rating. I can't see it being an issue.

We had our yearly pilgrimage to the south east of South Australia to celebrate Australia Day on the 26th of January.

Here's some happy snaps from the trip. We didn't grab too many photos. We came down on Friday and stayed for two nights.

It was a great weekend away catching up with old friends and making new.
