Gelatin-Silver Prints

I was spotting tonight, for about 3 hours, and was wondering if there was anyone else on ExPo that is printing GSP's? A gelatin-silver print is made in a darkroom from a negative processing paper prints through wet chemistry...in case you didn't know.

Anyway, here is a shot from tonight. I know there's got to be at least ONE of you out there that is as sado-masochistic as I am.

BTW, these are 8x20 prints shot with a 4x10 view camera.

I'm one of those weird people that loves the darkroom.I do traditional photography all the way up to 8x10. Are you on Apug or LFF ?

I also shoot LG and ULF. Linhof Tech IV, Lotus View Camera 4x10 and a Wisner 12x20. I am on LFF and Mamut. I am inthe process now of building a new darkroom in a bombshelter where I can also do Pt & Pd prints with a 5000w plateburner. www.soost.com

Sadly, I no longer have access to a darkroom. There is something special about it that can't quite be matched with digital. I don't know if it is the tangibility or those first moments when the image begins to appear in the developer, but I definitely miss it. Your prints look great by the way.

My sentiments exactly.

Wow! There is a contingent! Sweet. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I'm on APUG, where sadly, I feel like I have to bite my tongue, but I'll play by their rules in their sandbox. I'm not on Mamut, and stop into LFF very sporadically. I find that APUG fills my analog need pretty well.

Sandy King did start a new carbon printing group on Yahoo that I joined. I'm making all kinds of alt. prints and will be making some very large carbons this fall.

I'm using a Toyo 8x10, a Canham 4x10, a 8x20 and 11x14 Lotus. I was using a 12x20 Korona a few years ago, but sadly had to give it back. I'm also shooting Hasselblad and a bunch of random digital stuff too.

I'll be in Sweden next summer shooting, and hope to bring at least the 4x10.

Now I know that my obtuse references to large cameras and non-silver printing techniques won't be lost on this crowd.

Nice to meet all of you guys! :victory:

Where and when will you be in Sweden? I live in Stockholm and if you have time would love to take you out into Stockholms archipelago.

The last time I was in Sweden we were all over the place. We rented a little MBZ 190e and drove from Malmo clear up past Upsalla. Stockholm is a LOVELY place. We have a lot of family in Sweden and we plan to visit them for about 3 weeks. They were over here last summer and toured all over the west. Here's our family group shot from the American and Swedish Anderson's.

We don't have a firm date set yet, but it will be in early August of 2010. We'll be in Stockholm for sure for a while. It would be awesome to get together. I wanna drive your Volvo!!!! :Wow1:

Great shots by the way! I miss the dark room very much and wish I still had acess to one.

I thought your photo of the family was funny, because a stereotype of Swedes is they all have blonde hair, and I only counted a few in that huge family with dark hair, I'm assuming who married into the family:)

All of you old-school photographers are going to love the story I'm finishing right now for the Overland Journal. It's about a friend of mine who is doing Collodion wet-plate out in the field and he is using my Land Rover as his location darkroom. Very, VERY cool stuff.

Here's a preview...

That sounds great! What a cool project.
