After the first big road trip with the girlfriend I've realized the beauty of hot showers. Warming up on the shore of the Flathead river after a sunset dip sealed the deal. So, I needed to find a permanent storage location for our propane water heater. The best place I could find was rear door. To clearance the cabinets I figured I'd needed to recess it a little over 2.5". For material I scavenged some sheet metal from my recently replaced dryer.

As you can see my tools for this fabrication were not ideal. I almost used this as an excuse to buy a metal brake but the vise and hammer were going to have to cut it. The corners were pop riveted together.

The classic, "Man, this is a PITA, it better be the right size."

The moment of no return.

I put a few riv nuts in the back of the box for mounting the heater unit. This seemed to be the simplest solution that still allows for it to be removed and serviced. The box itself was pop riveted into the door panel.

I'm a little concerned about the heat venting out the top. Hopefully the aluminum tape will do the trick. I still have to come up with a shower curtain system. I'm thinking about a rectangular hoop that folds down flat against the door and locks in a horizontal position when in use. I could store the curtain in a little bungee pouch on the right side of the heater when not in use. Who knows, I seem to love to leave projects half done.

On another note. I took the rig out to the cinder hills OHV area in Flagstaff. We aired down the tires and locked up the rear. I was amazed what I could motor through. I got stuck once on a steep climb where I left the main track. Once this thing is sunk in the tall gearing (5.33) just can't keep driving the wheels. My buddy pulled be out and I gave the hill another go and made it. But all the loose stuff in the flats was no trouble.
