Gen 2.5 Newbie Checking In

Picked up my '98 Montero yesterday, it's in great shape for its age and I lucked out and got one with a rear locker! Really glad I found this site as their seems to be a TON of knowledge. That Montero part number guide in particular was really helpful as I'm ordering all the parts to do the timing belt, WP, plugs etc as a baseline. Anyway I'm looking forward to turning her into a nice overland/camping rig but for right now, stockish:

Am I the only one who noticed how the pin striping on the Monty is lined up perfectly with the paint line on the concrete in the background? I remember when mine was that pretty and clean.

BTW, since I'm getting ready to knock out the timing belt, VC gaskets and whatnot I was thinking of doing the valve stem seals as well. Do the SOHC's have the same valve stem seal issues as the DOHC's? I haven't noticed any burning oil or anything of the sort but if they're a known issue it seems like it would be a prime opportunity to go ahead and knock them out...

I didn't do mine and haven't had issues almost 2 years later, the SOHC engines do not have the typical valve issues the DOHC has.

My 99 had the valve seal problem at 125 k miles.... It also had blown headgasket from overheating... That might have damaged the valve seals... Or accelerated their demise
