Gen 3 Montero / Pajero - What does this coolant cluster do & is this OK? Also where should this be attached? Also, what about this missing bolt?

Cluster of coolant tubes located right next to the transmission A) what do they need to cool back here and B) is this hose kink OK? recently one T joint (plastic) broke and replaced with brass, but was unable to come up with a config that didn't result in a bent tube

Also, right next to the transmission/exhaust is a bundle of wires with a broken bracket dangling from them. Where should this bracket attach and does this look like it's melting due to heat from the exhaust?

Lastly, it looks like there's a missing bolt on my transmission. How urgently do i need to replace this? Do you think this is a larger issue than what's revealed at the surface level?

The coolant tubes indicate your Pajero has separate rear heat and air conditioning. Follow the tubes to the rear of the truck. There is a separate heat exchanger in the back to provide user controlled heat from the middle row of seats. The Tee at the joint you repaired has two different diameters. Best to get the Tee from Mitsubishi and repair it correctly. (Reminds me I need to do the same, as mine is patched too).

Can't answer for the wire bracket without crawling under mine, but maybe I can check it out later. Maybe bolts in with the starter or on one of the transmission bolts? Usually if you rotate the bracket around by hand you can see where the wire loom is most likely to lay best.

The wire loom bracket bolts to the back of the transmission bellhousing. You have the bolt there already. See these pics from my truck. (I have already fixed the oil leaks that got the wire loom all nasty, thank you very much...)


As far as the "missing bolt" goes, you may be right. I'd check the front side to be sure it hasn't backed out, or maybe they just put a shorter one in the wrong hole. On the driver's side I have two holes with no bolts that you can see threads from the back side. For what it's worth they come through from the front side, facing rear on the bottom of the bell housing, and into the block from the rear on the top of the bellhousing.

Here's the driver side I was talking about. See the hole with the threads showing? There actually is not a bolt there in that hole or the one above it that you can't see in the picture, just the transmission dust cover. My guess is that is the starter hole for this transmission in another application?

Anyhow, hope this helps you.
