Getting Into a RTT

RTT on a pickup truck camper shell.

Does anyone know of or modified a roof top tent to enter from the floor? I am thinking about mounting a RTT on the top of my camper shell but to enter from a hatch on the inside.
I was thinking of installing a marine (boat) type hatch of the camper shell roof which require a hole the same size on the bottom of the RTT.

Do you think I could cut the hole on the bottom of the tent and still be ok. I would need to seal it somehow from the elements.

Mike Hiscox had an RTT modified to fit on a service body trailer with an access hatch cut in the bottom of the RTT.

Id be worried with the structural integrity of the tent after cutting up the floor. Sounds like a interesting idea though.

I have a friend who dod that to a Maggiolina.
He put a wiper motor on the crank and a switch inside the van, bonded the lower shell to his roof and cut a skylight through.
Hole in the mattress of course. He made up a plug which was a piece of mattress on a board wrapped in fabric and stapled like a seat cushion.
Sorry no pics, he was very happy because it was a low roof van and It allowed him to stand up
