GFC vs. Vagabond

Picked up a rental Nissan Frontier and transferred my Vagabond to it...and it fits!

Also not sure why anybody would buy this truck but people do lol...

Looks like it's making contact with the cab and the back hangs over a few inches? Got anymore pictures?

I have a frontier:love:

It's definitely not making contact with the cab BUT it is lower than on a Tacoma. You have 2-3 inches of room there.

It does hang off the edge a bit, but with the right tail window it shouldn't be a problem. I think the bed is an inch or so shorter than a Tacoma, but I have a window for 3rd Gen Tacoma on there which is about an inch thicker than a 2nd Gen tailgate.

I'm still waiting for GFC or Vagabond to make a frontier specific model before i decide what camper to put on my truck, but good to know the tacoma version could fit. Seems like there's a lot of tacoma owners buying these things right now... who knows there may be used ones available soon.

Glad to know you're back in the saddle, so to speak.

Honestly you should message both companies about it, and get anyone with a Frontier who wants one to do the same. I just told Phil that I didn't think it was worth doing a Frontier specific version because I don't think the demand is there but maybe it actually is.

If you're interested I can take some better photos tomorrow, I have zero qualms about using this on the Frontier.

When I was looking at a Flippac for my 2017 CC SB frontier, FRB stated that their Flippac for the Tacoma CC SB was 63" long and the frontier CC SB was 61" long. There is also that rear window of the Frontier that bulges out to work around. It might be worth looking at how the Flippac used a front "lip" for the base to solve this.

Just offer a flatbed options for the Tacoma & Frontier with a flatbed camper that is common between the two.

I have contacted both companies about building a Frontier specific model, and both have responded in the affirmative. It just seems like it's not a high priority right now due to the high number of Tacoma orders, which is totally understandable from a business perspective.

More photos would be appreciated. GFC and Vagabond campers are pure eye candy!

I spoke with GFC on the phone within the last two weeks, and I was told to "keep an eye on social media". He didn't give me a date, but said that the frontier specific GFC will be available "soon".

That's pretty much the answer I got from them months ago. I interpreted that response as "We don't know." Vagabond has invited me to stop by their shop and test fit their Tacoma model on my Frontier, but my schedule has been hectic lately and I have not scheduled anything with them. In a way I'm glad the Frontier campers are not out yet. It has given me time to evaluate the pros and cons of each style of camper from the different manufacturers. You really have to look at how you plan to use the camper and what features are most important to you. The camper I liked more initially actually makes less sense for me.

That's where I am with the GFC. It's nearly what I want with a crucial flaw that kinda breaks the deal for me. For others, they'll love them. Which is fine because its unique product at great price. Maybe the flaw will be fixed in future revisions.

So what is the crucial flaw? Mine is the pin latches they are using, I fully expect those to be frozen solid in the winter time here in Canada. Especially with our freeze that cycles, and rendering it useless for winter camping.

GFC says they had no issues in testing through multiple thaw and freeze cycles in Montana. It’s a concern of mine as well being way up north with 6 month winters but hopefully the latches prove to be as good as advertised. The latch itself is rated to be waterproof by its manufacturer.

If any manufacturer invites you over for a test fitting I would jump on it! You get a nice behind the scenes look and you see how much work and attention to detail is put into these campers.

Snapped some more photos of the Drifter on a Frontier tonight...probably not the shots you were looking for though lol.

Oh believe me I really wanted to check out their shop. This was when they were in the process of doubling up their shop size so there wasnt much they could show me then. I still plan to check them out sometime soon. My weekends finally clear up again after this month. I'm less then an hour away from these guys.

Im bit disappointed with your photos... posting only two is simply not enough. Especially for what seems like such an epic location. Is this in Arizona?

The first "Beta" run of the campers are usually the ones you want to hold off a bit, and wait a year or so for improvements. Now with all this suddenly new competition it will keep manufactures on their toes, and want to be better or offer different features over the other guys.

Sit back and watch is a good thing, imo. I am kinda waiting to see the flatbeds...
