Go Treads

Site rules should be rewritten then, as it currently only states that commercial members cannot sell their products in threads unless they are sponsors. This incident was just a member that found a discounted price for forum members.

Guidelines for Commercial Members

Many members of this forum are also owners of commercial companies, many of which cater to outdoor and expedition clients.
If you are not a sponsoring vendor, then solicitation of members via PM or in threads is not appropriate.
It is not appropriate for vendor members to post retail items for sale in the equipment section.
Basically, if it reads like you are trying to sell your product in a thread, then you are. Become a sponsor.
It is acceptable to not be a sponsor, and have a link to your company in your signature line. However, non-sponsors can only have the company name with the link embedded. No multi-line signatures with BUY NOW!"

While they are at it, the site should also make it more clear which members are sponsors. There are a LOT of posts/threads selling ride-alongs and pre-packaged routes, and it's not clear that these are sponsoring vendors. Instead of "Explorer" or "Adventurer" under their user name, why not a "Sponsoring Vendor" label in a different color?

Thanks for sharing, its cheaper than maxtrax and easier to store but i am skeptical of its use. I cant see how that would help a vehicule out of deep mud for exemple. I'll make a search on this.

It would work the exact same way a maxtrax would In deep mud, and the exact same way a 2x4 with nuts and bolts drilled through.

Also, I was standing n the demo last night, and two of these side by side would make an alright shower floor too.

I think the moderators need to review the rules as well. I can not interpret any part of the site rules in any way close to what the mod hit me with. I am not commercial. I am an enthusiast that found a Domestically sourced solution to 350 dollar Australian imports, who then contacted the company, and showed enough interest to have 1/3rd of the price kicked off for my fellow enthusiasts. I am not receiving any kickback of any kind, other then a demo tread, which I will do my review on, pass it around for a while, and ask if they want it back.

So, if I were to have posted this in the 'for sale/wanted' thread, I would have seen the rules. But, since I was not selling, or looking to sell, I never went there.

"Please refer to the rules here: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/6383-Forum-Rules-READ-BEFORE-POSTING

The Group Buy rule is an effort to protect our supporting sponsors of the site and to make it fair for retailers. If a product is readily available on the market, meaning that anyone can purchase it easily, then a group buy is not allowed on ExPo but the vendor or manufacturer is welcome to become a Vendor on the site and offer a special sale to the members.

If the product is rare, scarce or custom made then a group buy can be organized and hosted on ExPo. So, as an example, if you have an old truck that parts are not available for and you have that part custom made, you can create a group buy for others who may need that part.

This is not an argument, it is policy. "

Hi,

Regarding the rules, they can be found here: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/6383-Forum-Rules-READ-BEFORE-POSTING, and are posted as a sticky thread at the beginning of each section within the For Sale forum.

Note:
Group buy policy:
Group buys are not allowed on Expedition Portal unless previously approved by the administration. The exception to this rule is obscure or difficult to acquire items which our supporting sponsors do not carry, and that would be otherwise unavailable for purchase (for example, a widget for a Toyota LJ78 that has to be imported from Japan). When in doubt, please ask an admin in advance.

Keep in mind that Expedition Portal is made possible thanks to our supporting sponsors and supporting vendor companies. Group buys of readily available products undermines their businesses and therefore undermines the existence of Expedition Portal and your enjoyment of the site as users. If a company wishes to offer a discounted price to the ExPo Forum it first must be an authorized supporting vendor. If a Forum member, as a consumer, wishes to organize a group buy or negotiate for and pass along a special price to the ExPo forum, it is only allowed for obscure, hard to obtain low-run custom items.

Thank you for your understanding,
Brian

Still stuck on the bold portion. That is stand alone. It WOULD be allowed, except you wont allow it because of the unrelated exception, which means if it were a rare item, you would not need to at first ask permission. I am half tempted to ask the rue to be updated, so it reflected your words. If one is to dictate, at least make the law support yourself. It is all good though, AAV is allowing the group buy there.

I guess the rules are the rules, although we may not agree with them...

So when's the custom run of GoTreads being made? You know, the run that has "Expedition Version" stamped or stickered on it ;) I don't believe those are available for sale to the general public. :snorkel:

I do still think that sponsoring vendors should all have that label under their names. It helps the users realize that when these folks are promoting their trail coordinates, ride-alongs, or other products, that they have a commercial interest. When people without the sponsor tag are then discussing these products, it can be viewed more as a customer review, and therefore has more value.

I wish, but even then I doubt it would be special enough to displace maxtrax. What I would love to see, would be to have the individual sections for sale. You could make a 60 foot tread if you really wanted to!

Big sparkles and stuff, perhaps with purple lettering and such. It would sure put things into perspective.
