What was the deciding factor in getting the bigger modle heater Greg? Does it give out a better gpm or heat range?

Well if it doesn't fit, I'll be more than happy to take it off your hands while I'm down that way next month! :)

Well, when I ordered the L5 the company I ordered it from messaged me like 30 minutes later to let me know they were out of stock. They offered the L7 as a free upgrade in place of the L5 that they could not supply. I think I got a pretty good deal... higher BTU output, double the warranty and metal hoses and fittings.

My friend Mike and I had a chat the other day in his shop. It turned into a design for a mounting system for the on demand HW heater, and me buying one of his 10LB Propane tank holders. MAN I can't go over there without leaving with more stuff.

This will mount to the rear of the trailer near the "kitchen" and swing away from the tent. I have an easy up that I will use to go over the kitchen, should work out sweet.

The 10 LB tank will sit just below the overhang at the rear of the trailer and behind the rear fender. Hopefully that will offer it some protection too... now all I need is the water tank and I am GTG. Well the tank, about 12 hours, a skid plate and miscellaneous hoses, fittings and so on.

I told my wife just last night that it would be awesome to have a clone.

She just laughed as she told me how it would not work. I would want to be the one who wanted to "play" with my toys, but then want to gripe cause the other me wasn't doing my "job" correct. Then i would be in the same spot again... Just with another mouth to feed.

You have told me in the past about camping with your buddys WH system on his trailer. What i cant remember is if you ever indicated the amout of fuel it burns. Will a 10 lb tank last through the week/weekend?

I asked my brother (he repairs tankless WH). He did not know about the portable units but said the home ones do ok on fuel consumption.

Hey there...yes, clones. If you have see the Michael Keaton movie Multiplicity, you can see how it can go bad fast.

The tankless heaters seem to be pretty easy on the fuel. We were only out for 3 days with Mikes setup (L5) and it barely made a dent in his tank. I imagine that with normal use (dishes, wash hands, maybe 1 quick rinse/shower) you could probably get a week out of a 10 LB including cooking and maybe your BBQ. I am going to take my 10 LB and do a test soon to gauge how much it uses. I don't remember seeing any stats on it on the Eccotemp site, but it is likely very dependent on flow rate of water and the temp you turn it up to.

On a side note, I am picking up my custom 10 LB propane tank holder tomorrow or Wednesday and I got the heater mount installed for a test fit. Works great so I primed and painted it last night.

And I am happy to report that the heater with the mount fits in the tongue box. I have enough room for some high density foam around it and a nice strap to keep it in place.

I got busy around the yard and didn't get a chance to pick up my water tank this weekend, which is one of the last major pieces before this thing is ready for long hauls. That and I need some exterior lighting too. Oh and I started mounting my Guest Marine battery charger, pretty slick unit. Sealed and with a waterproof coupler.

The heater fits in your tongue box nicely. Love the swing away mount for it too. Neat idea!

Yeah it fits in there pretty good after all. If I dont decide to keep it in there, I still have room in the tub for a lot of stuff and can mout it there.Could make a mount under the lid too? I managed to get the swingaway mount primed last night, and painted it tonight. Ran out of black semi gloss, so I did it with Duplicolour Charcoal Metallic wheel paint. Dries hard as a rock...looks pretty kool too. Sadly no pics, forgot. To be clear, my friend Mike (Wavebreaker) designed and built the mount for me. A fantastic job as always.

I also got my gas can holder mounted on the XJ. Sadly it is causing me some interferance with the hatch on the XJ, so I have some tweaking to do. I mounted it as low as I could and as far to the left as possible, maybe a little too far left as the pad lock is a bugger to get on now. Not sure what to do with it now.... PITA, had to remove the plastic "Mile Jug" on that corner to get it to work at all.

Oh and I traded some parts for some treats...

Good deal for me and for him!

Picked up my propane tank holder tonight ready to install as soon as I paint it. I also test fit the HW tank on the mount now that it is dry, works great and gets it away from the tent!! I also sorted out my issue with my gas can holder and the tire swing out. Need to remount it tomorrow, should be perfect.

Going to be a busy weekend.

More work...

I carefully trimmed to size and trimmed around the divider supports for a nice fit. Looks great, smells like...well rubber, but it works amazing! I then dropped in the dividers and popped in all the bins and water cans for a test fit...so sweet.

Tonight, wire up a few lights outside on a switch if I can locate one? I swear I had some spares??

I love the level of organization you've achieved here and the oh-so-practial way you did it. No wasted space it seems! Excellent and Inspirational!! :victory:

Wow, thanks a lot for the compliments. When Mike and I were talking about building a "kitchen" I knew I needed to find a place to store the table tops while in transit. He made up a quick design, we took some measurements and started planning. I figured we could make them work as dividers and load managers if you will and that solved load shifting as well as where to store them in transit.

It worked out really well! I am very happy with the table tops, the fit and how it all looks. Just need to get out and test out the whole setup as soon as I get the water tank in and plumbed up!

I'm still trying to figure out how I'll copy your design for the table tops. There are advantages to not having a tailgate. But I was happy to see that the black container you're using fits... I have one sitting in my shed with all my camping gear in it! :)

Yes, those containers are a perfect fit. I am super glad I was able to get 2 of them, apparently the last 2 our WalMart had too. I have gone back a number of times to get another and they are never there. Only a couple of the small 1/2 sized ones. If you need some detailed photos on the table/load managers, let me know. I had the idea, Mike (Wavebreaker) built it all. He is a Master Shipwright and a trailer nut. He has some MAD fab skills and a lot of fantastic ideas...I would be lost without his help and guidance.

More coming tomorrow...
