Great. Thanks. There is a lot to wade through. I assume it is OBO. Also, are you working with a European broker and/or someone to help with the transport back into the USA? Depending on the service, it could add $10-25K on to the price for us Yanks.
Hello again
sorry ,but beeing not USA and with just a medium level in engleish I do not know what is OBO (perhaps an INCOTERM?).
yes I hired a broker that can help and that I pay for selling the rig (for help the selling, not for help the buyer in its purchase). It is one, if not the most experts one, on these vehicles. From the Netherlands. To be honest, both him and me, also use to have contacts from northamerica but they are frequently more about "just questionning...." than about real interest.
Obviously dealing with transport and admin issues on your country is a matter of the buyer. He can do this on its own or contract whoever he wants. What I am sure about is that the RORO transport is not as expensive as you propose.
And also there is a quite relevant issue for USA or Canadian buyers: the truck as already been initially imported to USA and registered there by Freightliner/Mercedes and built by GXV in Missouri USA and is more than 15 years old. This is a quite relevant issue as far as you normally don't have to pay twice the importaton of the same good (no where), neither the importation of something that has been built in your country.
But as I said i am not an expert and it is not my country.
I know that a plane ticket would always be involved (
AND SHOULD BE FROM THE BEGINING) to see the truck before buying. It is a must see and would never sell the rig to somebody who does not even see it personnaly first. It is a question of fairness and also of personal attitude. That is also what i did in the past when i bought it from GXV: flying to Missouri first, to see and to decide.
The buyer should study the/its subject and be aware of the admin and cost issues that obvioulsy will also depend on if he wants to manage things on his own or let have the help of a "clé en main" pro or broker from his side. In any case from my experience we are far from those amounts you suggest in your post.
But I insist: i am not an expert in import/export neither on northamerican procedures. What i know is just from my own experience and from comments in these threads/posts from some other USA and Canada overlanders that you can see on the 2024 and 2025 therads and posts
