Those motors are apparently the best for conversions for burning old cooking oil.
I've got a buddy was drives two of those Mercs running on old chip oil and is in the process of looking for a donor truck to create a chip oil 4x4.
He scours the takeout places for stock. He actually approached me recently for advice on building one into an "Classic" race car. He's been featured a few times in local magazines.

Apparently the trick is in the filtering and the initial heating prior to starting.

So if you want a seriously cheap oil burner get your hands on one of those motors

I included the picture in the first post. Ad some limb risers, sand ladders and Ti cookware and you would be good to go.

That reminds me: a the W123/124/116(?)and 126 chassis were somewhat common as a basis for ambulances and herses in Germany. Might have to hop on German e-bay and see what the '83 & older ones are going for.

Now that one doesn't look bad, if the other one was done that well it may have been more appealing.

Just realised the you have to register to view the Benzworld photos. Take the time and do it, great 'Mog discussions there and some good G-Wagen and Sprinter stuff, too.
