I passed my Tech on 3/15/14 and have been (im)patiently waiting for my call sign. I bought a UV5RE+ and a Nagoya NA-771 from amazon. I plan to pick up a mobile unit once I figure out some stuff and learn how to use AR. I took a class but they only really read through FCC 97 and didn't talk practical use at all. I've been reading/skimming the Dummies book trying to figure it all out but its still not super clear.

I didn't anticipate that it would take this long to get my call sign. I have been checking on the FCC website daily.

Wow Mine showed up the first business day, tested on Saturday and it was posted on Monday.

How long ago did you guys take it though? I wonder what the current back log is like.

I took mine back in October when the government shutdown was just wrapping up, and it only took about a week for the paperwork to process.

I think the time variation on processing have more to with the VEs that with the FCC. I've heard some VEs have a way to submit online, and other just put the forms in an envelope and mail them when they get the chance. I don't know that with certainty, but I read it on the internet (so it must be true!) when I was waiting for mine to process.

I took mine at OEX last year. That's probably the reason it took a little longer, due to being in a remote setting and them sending in the test results.
