Hambo aluminum poptop

A little more every day!

The poptop is now secured to the truck via a 62" long stainless piano hinge and close to 80 stainless bolts and rivnuts! Once I was satisfied with the fit I covered all the nuts with a 3" wide Ethernabound tape. I also sealed the inner frame with Sikaflex sealant and installed a rubber gasket on the poptop portion.

Tomorrow I should be good to install the canvass, hopefully it will properly line up or I'm in big trouble, lol! If I have time I'll mount back my 2 solar panels and I also have a small solar fan lined up for install.

The1st picture it shows the opening orientation but I'm pretty sure it will end up opening wider, all dependant on the canvass. After my spring break trip (leaving in 3 days...) I'll look into installing the electric actuators. That will be the last piece of the puzzle!

That is awesome! We appreciate your monologue. I'm sure many are like myself and check the forums every day for updates on build threads like yours. We just don't necessarily interact because... well I guess I don't particularly have much to contribute

That came out awesome! I was thinking of something similar with my roof but since the construction of the M1010 box is different than most commercial ambos, I did a full roof raise instead.

I do have a question about the windows in your box. Where did those come from?

That looks great David. You've integrated my favourite feature from the Westy's I've owned. Always loved being able to leave everything below as is and just pop the top for the bed.

How about a last update for a while as I'm heading out on a roadtrip tomorrow...

Here you can see the bed platform in 3 positions. 1st position is fully down to get more sleeping room and extra storage when the top is down.

2nd position is 3" higher. Mattress (and blankets...) are now against the ceiling when the roof is down and we get extra headroom down below.

And 3rd position, way up!

The wood piece in the corner holding the top is temporarily. Can't wait to install the actuators as it is not easy for one person to open and close the roof now. I can manage but it will be nice to just push a switch to get it done!

Oh boy, that thing does sound heavy. Hopefully that wood piece doesn't fall out when you don't want it to! Electric actuators would be cool. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see the final product!

None at all. It's tall where I need to stand. No need to have extra height above the countertops

It is heavy, maybe 200-250lbs but the piece I cut off was a good 150lbs so not much of an overall issue.

On a side note, I hit the scale yesterday and was around 12,500lbs.

5000lbs front axle
7500 rear axle

Currently in Salt Spring City (or nearby town). Good trip!!!
