I have my Nuvi 500 hardwired in the land cruiser. They make a kit that goes to bare wires..

I just installed a hidden 12V cigarette lighter under the dash and routed the cable up for a cleaner look. It was cheap and easy and would accomplish the same thing you are trying to do.

I tucked the power cord for my Garmin Nuvi behind the dash and ran an extra 12v cigarette socket under the center console so the power cord was not exposed.

I did the same thing but just kept it plugged into the stock 12v socket. I have another socket up front so it really isn't a big deal that the one is occupied for the Garmin.

I made my own kit. I use my Nuvi in several cars but wanted it hardwired and mounted in the 4Runner. The suction cup is fine for the other vehicles.

I used a proclip mount and bought some extra Nuvi parts on ebay. I bought an extra charger and L bracket mount. I cut the male end of the charger so I had the wires and piece that clicked into the cradle. I also cut up the cradle and mounted it to the proclip. It's super solid and always ready to go.

Easy piesey. Took about 30 minutes. I have a blue sea in the dash under the radio. The power wire is plugged into there and comes out of the dash vent right behind the Nuvi. When the Nuvi is not being used the wire tucks into the vent.

This seems to be the only picture I have with the proclip installed. The power wire comes in from the vent behind it.

Edit: The square mount was for an old gps, not the NUVI.

You could also just take a standard car lighter cord and cut/strip the end at the lighter. They are usually long enough. Just make sure it's fused since the wire that's made to go into a cig lighter is usually pretty small.

Yep.

But

Some of the cords have the FM tansmitter for speech and traffic. If you still want that you've have to do something different as I assume they have more wires. The pic of the 2 little wires is all that is in the Garmin cord, non fm transmitter. The OE cord is nice so I didn't cut that one, I cut the $4 ebay one as I just wanted the end. I already had a fused source so I didn't need the entire length or an extra fuse. I think it runs on a 3 amp mini blade fuse through the Blue Sea.
