High Mileage?

I am the guy Nashvillerover mentioned. I am in Miami as well, and have been looking for a DII for a while and have gone back and forth on what I wanted. I was looking at 04s almost exclusively because of the things mentioned elsewhere on this forum. I have a bit more of a budget so I was looking at lower mileage examples, even considering early model LR3s. I have the number of a shop that does LRs. I will PM you his info, he is in Medley. Nice guy, though he talked about LR3s as being one of the most problematic Rovers, and I might go against his advice and buy one anyway.

No offense, but if I remember correctly, the comments the guy you referred to didnt exactly make a lot of sense. I am not sure I would trust him for a prepurchase inspection - or maintenance at all.

Check bushducks.com. They have a mechanic's page where you can look up repairshops geographically or by specialty (restorations, mods, certain Rover models, etc.). I am sure there are several in Miami. Too big of a town and too much money not to have some shops.

Thanks for the PM I will definitely check it out too since LtFuzz sent me another shop that does Land Rovers.

Guys, so the DII I checked out today with 140K was OK. No lights were on, but I am guessing it was because none of the lights worked! These are the seven codes I pulled out with my SGII:

P1590: ABS rough road signal circuit malfunction
Hardware is OK, but SLABS ECU is sending an error signal

P0440: Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction

P0155: O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction (bank 2, sensor 1)
Front sensor heater RH bank - short/open circuit

P0154: O2 sensor circuit no activity detected (bank 2, sensor 1)
Front sensor RH bank open circuit

P1300: Random/multiple cylinder misfire detected
Catalyst damaging level of misfire on more than one cylinder

P0308: Cylinder 8 misfire detected
Injector 8 excess emissions/catalyst damaging level of misfire

P0302: Cylinder 2 misfire detected
Injector 2 excess emissions/catalyst damaging level of misfire

None taken. That is why I said I would go against his advice. There is a bit of everything, but a lot of the things he mentioned are true. i.e. LR3s having airbag suspension issues, electronic issues with suspension, etc. Then again, as they say, the people who have issues are the ones who post about them...

Hey man these are the 7 codes that I got off the reader and what they mean:

P1590: ABS rough road signal circuit malfunction
Hardware is OK, but SLABS ECU is sending an error signal

P0440: Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction

P0155: O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction (bank 2, sensor 1)

Injector 8 excess emissions/catalyst damaging level of misfire

P0302: Cylinder 2 misfire detected
Injector 2 excess emissions/catalyst damaging level of misfire

So the lights didn't come on when you started the truck? Between that and the codes above, I'd say this one sounds like a real good one to walk away from...

LOL

Run away :bike_rider:

P1590, I'm guessing this thing is suffering from 3-amigos, but the bulbs are pulled.

Walk away unless they are giving this one away for free.

The ABS, TC, Check Engine didn't go on when I turned it on so the bulbs were pulled most likely. I didn't walk away! I RANNNNNNNNNNN.

LOL

Yup.

Yea I ran the other way.

saw this elsewhere, might be worth a look/see, no affiliation....

OH MY GOD. I want. I'd so be willing to fly there and drive it back down. Anyone near to check it out for me? Also, why so cheap. Hmmm...

Many of those codes are easily fixed, probably new plug wires will take away the misfires. O2 sensor obviously, however the rest can be a bear.

FWIW, I have 140K on my 2000 DII and the motor is still going strong. Just have to stay on top of the oil leaks (which I haven't). I would drive it coast to coast. I also have no lights or ODBII codes to speak of, haven't had anything in over a year or so. Very reliable truck with good maintenance. That being said keeping ahead of the maintenance curve is the key. Fix things BEFORE they break and it'll never leave you stranded. It's pretty easy to see the rover problems coming as there are many signs.

The guy said he had the wires replaced as well as both cats, so that could be related.

However, check this out.

As I was running away from this particular D2, I spotted another one, same color but being driven by an elderly woman, driving by with a for sale sign. As much as I want a D2, I followed her trying to get her number to call, but I just ended up parking next to her at a Cuban restaurant down the block.

It was a 1999 D2 with 95K, two owners. The first owner had it for 2 years, then she bought it for her daughter, so they have owned it for ~11 years. It had NO CODES (yaaaaaay) so no 3 amigos, and when I pressed HDC it went bonkers so it definitely worked and the lights on the dash functioned. No vibes while driving, and it had power. I think it was an SD because it had no sunroofs (again yaaaaaay).

However, as good as it seemed mechanically, the exterior had some dents and scratches, faded roof paint, the rear tailgate has a broken handle so I had to open it with a screw driver, it had a a nasty scratch that went through the driver's fender behind the light so it would need a new fender, and the headliner was sagging dearly. Also, what is up with all DIIs have a loose dash thingy that surrounds the speedometer, etc?

What worried me the most is that she told me the whole time she has owned it (again, ~11 years) she has pumped REGULAR gas. :Wow1:

Oh, and she was asking $3500 cash. Hmmm....?

I put 265k on my '95 D1 before the head gasket completely let go. It would have gone a lot longer I'm sure if it hadn't overheated really badly a couple of times at around 125-150k.
So it really depends on how it was driven and how well it was serviced.

Hope that helps.

Guys, looking at AMAZING 2004s is not helping my case about getting an early DII lol.

That's the same truck I posted on the first page of your thread, silly. :ylsmoke:

Yes I know but after seeing it twice it kicked in. See above^.
