Homemade bumpers?

I don't know your skill but I wouldn't diminish so quickly. It's not that hard...

I've done two front bumpers and one rear and I'm no where near being a good fabricator.

Just go slow and don't try and build something overly fancy.

I think there are some pictures of mine in here.

You did good work. Looks good.
I'm thinking about ways to build a bumper. I have been looking at pictures of simple Defender bumpers. I think I can make something from rectangular tubing that wont look bad, and would provide recovery and jacking points. I'm not planning on a winch for now. I'll just use a come along if needed.

Anymore pictures of your rear?

How it is caught rear bumper to chassis/frame, only to melt snow and start rear bumper.
...if can photos will it is wonderfully.

Profile is already folded, less welding, less paint and ready:smiley_drive:

Peter your bumper looks good!

I built one for my 94 D90 but that was before documenting everything became a fad. Here is one I built a few years ago for our old JK. I frequently use card board to template.

Wonderful great job.
For non-standard work, cardboard models are of great benefit.:)

I am impressed by the fabricating abilities of those who made their own bumpers in this thread. It inspires me to make some of my own stuff. Awesome work!

That is probably the best looking homemade bumper I have seen for a DI. You should sell them. I would buy one.

Not positive about the rear bumper.....yet, but after seeing your amazing front bumper I look forward to the results!

here is my homemade bumper. done with 7018 welding rods. its not pretty but this truck is not a "overlander" either :coffeedrink:

I totally missed this thread as I started my journey, but basically followed Peter's wisdom of using cardboard templates as I made rear bumper endcaps (didn't feel like changing the whole thing out).

As others have stated, using cardboard templates and then going slow works well even for the utter novice (i.e. me)

I was fortunate and got a truck with a one-off homemade front bumper too, pic just for the sake of this thread's future searches:

The first front bumper I built. It was done using 10 guage steel for the skin and 1/4" plate for the winch mount. Shaping was done using the good ol' cardboard cutouts.
