HONESTY, how bad are Trooper auto transmissions?

I know they are the "weak" link, but are they truly that bad? SOMETHING has to be the weak link right? Looking from some first hand experience.

I have been told by Isuzu mechanics they can do just fine if the fluid is changed regularly, as in every 30K, and there are plenty of high mileage units running out there...unfortunately most people don't do regular tranny fluid changes, and usually you won't know the maintenance history when looking at a used vehicle.

We had a 98 v6 trooper, put over 160k miles on it and only parts apart from servicing and lots of front pads was an issue with immobiliser ecu! fantastic car.

i just bought one with 150k miles. tranny shifts fine. I'm going to change all fluids soon, though, just to pamper it a bit.

I drive all auto's pretty gingerly, though: no hard takeoffs, Reverse - brake- complete stop - Neutral - Drive - gas (no reversing and then neutral and then Drive while I'm rolling back nonsense.)

Thanks guys, I'm gentle on mine around town and def. keep an eye on while off road. I'd add an aux cooler right away (as I would for any auto). I'll wait until I find one with maintenance records.

100K on ours, and it is a bit clunky.

Was owned by a neurotic OCD type, babied, has never seen dirt.

Just look how pristine this thing is.

With my manny Tacoma, when coming down the mountain here, I like to put in a lower gear
to stay off the brakes, tried that with the Trooper, only after a few miles (maybe 3 ha!) the tranny warning light started flashing, then
started acting weird.

Damn thing reminds why I hate automatics.
