I bought my 98 TJ for $3900 back in May. It's a 6cyl, auto sport package and came with a hardtop, a leaky and noisy rear axle and rust in the front fenders. It also had 166k miles on the odometer (which works occassionally) :Wow1: . Since purchase, I paid $900 for a set of Rubicon wheels and tires (with probably 70-80% tread remaining), aannnnd complete running gear (front and rear axles with 3.73 gearing, suspension, and steering bits, pretty much everything from the body tub down) off a 40k miles 2004 TJ. Those bits were all installed along with a Rough Country 2.5" suspension lift and shocks to bring the Jeep to its current status. All total, I've still got less than $5k in it as it sits.

Need to throw the top and doors back on it today, after a rather soggy ride to work yesterday. I'll probably start on some rear storage this weekend and order a rear bumper with receiver hitch so that I can pull a pop-up camper down to Big South Fork in a month or so.

Great story, my first was new a 1996 Cherokee. The next with the mods...about $34,000. I bought it new in 2000. Almost embarrassing after reading that story.

Holy thread revival, Batman! Yes, if you are going to blog about the trip, place it in the "In Progress" section of the main forum. :) We'd love to read!

I will, but it isnt really a trip. I have driven across Africa, the USA and all of europe, India is what it is. you have no open borders. This drive is more of a driving adventure. I intend to drive buses In KolKuta, and trucks across India. Billy is part of it. but not sure it counts as an expo. Adventure travel yes, expo possibly not ;-(
