Well,
I bought the whole hub with the new style gear in it already. Yes you can retro fit the 12k top gear into the 10k easily, but for $70 more you save a lot of time and you get to keep your stock stuff. I figured i would rather keep my hub. That way i can through 2 corners of the Hummer into the ol trailer so if i need to swap out quickly i can :Wow1:. Keep me on the tail more. I bought them for $250 each and new from AMG the CTIS spindle is $500!!! so i thought i would just keep it incase i trash one :ylsmoke:

They are great vehicles. Lots of maintenance, but most is preventative. You treat your truck right it will treat you right. I mean i could drive a toyota offroad and destroy it, even though on the street it is a much more reliable vehicle.

The H1 is one of the only vehicle in the world purly designed for offroad. :victory:

or made to push a bus up the hill with 34 pasengers in there :)

nice vette. you said you take it to the track? which track(s) do you go to? i'm a local track whore here in houston (used to have a blue C6Z, now a Panoz GTLM - both NASA SUO), and have never seen your Vette...

but judging by your snow pics, maybe you're not in houston anymore?

By going to the track i mean i go 2-3 times a year. I mainly go to Texas World Speedway. I have really been working on the Hummer and Fat Elvis mainly because i just had the vette painted. I had a lil runnin with a wall at Texas Motor speedway :Wow1:

Plus the lil lady likes the offroad a lil more.

I really want to get a dedicated race car, but the lady is not the happiest about it :(

The snow pics were from a really early ski trip this year :wings:

TWS is my home track as well. :) And yes, offroading is more fun for the missus because she can actually participate, instead of sitting in the bleachers and waiting for me to fly past every 1min 44sec (2.9 CCW). ;) :D

Update: :)

I put about 90% of the stuff for Fat Elvis on before my last trip to CO. Well it would not start. I spent 6hrs touble shooting before we left for the trip. So instead of canceling the trip the fiance said i had 30 min to get the Hummer ready for the trip or we will have to rent a car :(

Needless to say i got the hummer up and running. I checked all fluids, bolted a door panel on... Realise this is a 2200mile round trip for me. About 100 miles in the turbo started surging boost + or - 2 psi quickly. My heart sank! I pulled over at the next station and pured about a quart of deisel cleaner. In 2 miles it fixed the issue :wings: We ended up having a great trip besides the heated windshield, powerlock, and driver window sprayer on the fritz. :smiley_drive:

Once i got home with parts on the door step to fix the problem. the FICM (Fuel Injector Control Module) It must have been on its last leg and the priming of the fuel system put it over the edge. The new one i put it was form SWAMPS Diesel. It is a performance reflashed 58v unit :coffeedrink: . Needless to say the truck fired up better than it ever had.

I did a mpg test at 60-65 on the highway 80 miles 19.5 mpg!!! for a dually on a performance tune. The city i get about 17 mpg. That is about 2.5 mpg increase. It should save me $840 a year at 25k miles a year aka 2.3 years it paid for itself with deisel at $3.30 in houston. I would do the mods all over again just for the reliability improvement and massive amounts of power!

I was driving down the road the other day an hammered on the throutle at 50mph the rear wheels broke loose :smiley_drive: :Wow1: :wings:

Now I am getting the itch for some larger tires :)

My issue is that i want to make it expo esk, but keeping its 20k tow rating. The current idea is to put a 2" leveling kit and 35" BFG's Allterain "E" rated. I will have to put a 2" wheel spacer on the rear so the rear tires do not touch. That would make my rear tire contact to 4'2"'s!!! I also plan on building a bed rack system for bike and skies. Maybe a rooftop ten for the bed rack. I will be taking off the running board and making some rock sliders/steps. I really don't want to hurt reliability or mpg's. I have the H1 on 42's for offroading. So the plan is to make "Fat Elvis" the ultimate campsite truck/tow truck. I will also take it on very long road trips.

For example i want to drive the pacific coast from Houston. This is not a H1 trip this will be a "FE" Trip with camping on the way. Like i have stated before the fiance is not the biggest fan of travel in the H1 :( but she really likes the FE :ylsmoke:

If it is an offroad trip over 300 miles away i will tow the H1. If its closer i will just take the H1. One of these days i want to drive the H1 to Alaska and back.

Well it finally happened :wings:

What got installed:
The Rubber Duck 4x4 Stage 2 Suspension Lift
This lift includes upper ball joint shims that will greatly prolong life, by years. and around 1" spring spacers. This creates a 3" suspension lift. This is considred the best and most comprehensive suspension lift on the market.

Snow Plow Springs
Hummers have an issue with springs sagging over time and hard use. Well i sourced these for like $150 f/r and they will never sag. The stock springs are progressive and these are linear.

Pitbull Rocker Radial 41.5x13.5x16.5 Tires
These tires are amazing! They seem really round and did not need balancing on my setup. I classify them quiet. Realise i will only have them up to 65mph tops hehe. They are not street tires and not very overlandyyy

I measured about 5" total increase in height. Its perfect. Just what i wanted. The vibration has decreased a lot. It is much more bouncy because my shocks are pretty worn and and even if they were new, they wouldn't have enough damping. Therefore i need to get some Cpeck lifetime warrantee Hummer shocks. They are adjustable so i can dial them in.

I hope you appreciate all the pics and send me your questions.

:smiley_drive:

Don't worry expo crowd, it will not be getting any bigger.

Next mods:
- Humvee turn signals and tail lights
- f/r locker gear ratio not determined yet
- atlas transfer case (might happen quicker than i wanted to, mine is leaking)

I was pretty sold on going with 3.08:1 but after driving it with the 2.56:1's i don't know how neccessary it is. The tire increase dropped my rpm by 250! It decreased engine noice drastically (it does not drone as much) and also has a lot less vibration. So much that my fiance even commented on how much better it is.

Enjoy, I know i am hehe
M

The truck looks great! I always thought hummers looked best with 40"+ tires and a bit of elevation. Nice approach angle eh?

Yeah! If i took off the tiny brush guard i woud be at 90 degrees LOL.

The truck sits just right if you ask me. It is not hard to get in either.

I am glad you posted your measurements on the hml -- I have lost all touch with reality and where my truck "should" sit with the airbags. Always nice to have a reference (I didn't take measurements before all my mods!).

I'd rather remove my wonky factory brushguard (like the clean look better) but I use it as a curb-feeler on rocks and trees!

What is the weight rating on those pitbulls?
